The London-based seminal shoegaze band Lush, led by the ethereal Miki Berenyi, put out three EPs in quick succession: 'Scar' (1989), 'Mad Love' (1990) - produced by Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins - and 'Sweetness and Light' (1990). Gala - their debut compilation album, released originally in 1990 as a means of introduction to the Japanese and American markets - collates all the songs from these releases in reverse chronological order plus two additional tracks (a cover version of ABBA's "Hey Hey Helen" and the extended Robin Guthrie mix of Scar track "Scarlet"). Back in print for the first time since 1990, the tracks have been remastered by Kevin Vanbergen (Kiss, Pale Saints, Belly) and are sounding so good it's going to make the shoegaze revivalists clogging up your local pub venue have to up their game.
