The back-story, of the British amateur songwriter Steve Gardner teaming up with ultra professional Chuck Prophet, is an exciting one. But, more important is the “extraordinary album” – see review extracts below - that is the result of Steve’s two visits to the Decibelle recording studio in San Francisco. ‘Bathed in Comfort’ 5 060366 784445 was produced by Chuck Prophet and co-produced by 2017 Grammy-winner Matt Winegar.
After playing the first track, Rosalie, on BBC Wales radio, Frank Hennessy said it was from the "weirdly titled" album - now a bit of a challenge to spot where the title comes from! Frank Hennessy also described Steve Gardner as a "skewed folk rocker indeed". Sounds about right.

Reviews: 1.‘Bathed in Comfort’ given a 5* rating RnR magazine, issue May/June! (Features again in latest issue of RnR & one track, Rosalie, is included on the CD accompanying the magazine.)
2.The album is no less remarkable than the tale of how it all came to be says reviewer Simkin in on-line magazine Penny Black Music. … couple of classics here… the opening track ‘Rosalie’ sets the agenda – banjo, fuzz guitar, ethereal keys and James DePrato’s searing slide … the album moves between vintage-sounding shuffles like ‘I’m Gone’, bigger production numbers such as ‘Take Me Down’ and the tremendous ‘Lance Gardino’ … particularly noteworthy are the moving ‘I Can’t Walk Away’ and the chilling murder ballad ‘The Miller’s Daughter’ graced with haunting, spectral backing vocals from Mission Express secret weapon Stephanie Finch. The album’s quirkiness and off kilter charm owes more than a little to Steve Gardner’s own vocals. By no means conventional … rather limited in range and expressiveness … somehow, it just works.

Paul Kerr, of Blabber n Smoke, gives a full review of this odd album … where the signature Mission Express sound itself is best expressed on the glorious ‘Take Me Down, with switchblade guitars and a pounding beat … I’d definitely recommend a listen and even say that for Chuck fans it’s a must buy. … Deprato thinks “it’s weird”. So, another recommendation then.
4. At the end of Declan Culliton’s review on Lonesome Highway he adds …the packaging and artwork are particularly impressive and wouldn’t any artist, whether amateur or professional, just love to credit his band as including Chuck Prophet, Stephanie Finch, Vicente Rodriquez …
