"Evensong" (LP, SMAS-9302) is the second studio album by the British progressive folk band The Amazing Blondel, released in 1970 (February 1971 in the US) on Island Records.
Following their debut, "The Amazing Blondel & a Few Faces," "Evensong" further solidified the band's unique musical direction, which they described as "pseudo-Elizabethan/Classical acoustic music sung with British accents." Unlike many of their contemporaries in the British folk revival, Amazing Blondel largely eschewed electric instruments and focused on acoustic, period-style instruments suchates, citterns, crumhorns, recorders, and harpsichords.
The album features a collection of beautifully crafted, often pastoral songs and instrumentals that evoke a Renaissance or medieval atmosphere. The music is characterized by intricate acoustic arrangements, melodic songwriting by John Gladwin, and the distinctive vocal harmonies of the trio (John Gladwin, Terence Wincott, and Edward Baird).
