Brian Auger formed his first group in 1962. Comprising of Auger on piano, bassist Rick Laird and Phil Knorra on drums. This outfit was a jazz group, and following their debut at the Edinburgh Festival, they were mostly seen playing pubs and clubs in the London area. In a 1964 poll by readers of the popular music paper "Melody Maker" Auger won first place as "New Star" and "Best Jazz Pianist". To add to their sound, Auger added guitarist John McLaughlin and baritone sax played by Glenn Hughes to the line-up. Later that year however, the group had split up and Auger abandoned both jazz and his piano to join the growing number of R&B enthusiasts in London.

By November 1964, Auger had acquired a Hammond organ for himself and recruited bassist Ricky Brown and drummer Micky Waller, both of whom were former members of Cyril Davies' All Stars. This more dynamic music secured the group work in clubs and discotheques, including the famous Flamingo Club in London.

In the summer of 1965 the Trinity were approached by Long John Baldry who had plans to put a "supergroup" together following the demise of the Hoochie Coochie Men. With the addition of vocalists Julie Driscoll and Rod Stewart (who had previously sung with the Soul Agents), plus guitarist Vic Briggs incorporated into the band, Steampacket was born. A hard-working r&b/soul band who were unable to make official recordings due to contractual reasons, Steampacket lasted barely a year before falling apart.

From the remnants of Steampacket Auger put a new version of the Trinity together in September 1966. Retaining the services of Driscoll and Briggs, Auger completed the line-up by adding a second guitarist in Gary Boyle and bringing in Roger Sutton (replaced by Dave Ambrose in 1967) on bass and Clive Thacker on drums. By now they were billed as Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & The Trinity. The debut album "Open" was released in 1967 without attracting much attention until a cover of Bob Dylan's "This Wheel's On Fire" reached #5 in the charts during the early summer of '68. The success of the single rubbed off on the LP and belatedly pushed it into the album charts.

Two albums were released during 1968. The first was a purely instrumental album recorded without Driscoll, "Definitely What!", and the second "Streetnoise" which had Driscoll onboard. In 1969, Julie quit the group during an American tour and the Trinity struggled on for another year before folding in August 1970.

"Julie Tippetts (born Julie Driscoll, 8 June 1947, London, England) is an English singer and actress, known for her 1960s versions of Bob Dylan's "This Wheel's on Fire", and Donovan's "Season of the Witch", both with Brian Auger's Trinity. She and Auger had previously worked in Steampacket, with Long John Baldry and Rod Stewart.

"This Wheel's on Fire" reached number five in the United Kingdom. With distortion, the imagery of the title and the group's dress and performance, this version came to represent the psychedelic era in British music. Driscoll recorded the song again in the early 90s with Adrian Edmondson as the theme to the BBC comedy series Absolutely Fabulous,   whose main characters are throwbacks to that era.

Since the 1970s Driscoll has concentrated on experimental vocal music, married jazz musician Keith Tippett and collaborated with him. Her name is now 'Julie Tippetts', thus using the original spelling of her husband's surname. She participated in Keith Tippett's big band Centipede and, in 1974, took part in Robert Wyatt's Theatre Royal Drury Lane concert; released a solo album, Sunset Glow; and was lead vocalist on Carla Bley's album Tropic Appetites.

Later in the 1970s she toured with her own band, and recorded and performed as one of the vocal quartet 'Voice', with Maggie Nichols, Phil Minton and Brian Eley.

S (Neuf emballé/Sealed). M (Neuf/Mint) = La pochette est comme neuve, elle n'est juste plus sous son emballage d'origine. Le disque est parfait, comme neuf. NM (Proche du neuf/Near Mint). EX (Excellent) = La pochette peut avoir quelques discrètes rayures et/ou des petits plis. Le disque montre des signes d'avoir été joué (sensibles marques lumineuses), mais la perte de qualité sonore est très peu audible. Quelques rares crépitements sur platines sensibles.VG+ (Très bon +/Very Good+) = C'est l'état le plus courant des disques de deuxième main : la pochette peut présenter des signes de manipulations évidents : extrémité légèrement cornée, étiquette du prix, plis, légère usure de bords... Les vinyles ont quelques marques qui affectent peu la qualité sonore mais certains crépitements peuvent être audibles.VG (Très bon/Very Good) = La pochette peut être usée avec des plis, des marques, une usure des bords, un début de marque circulaire du disque sur la pochette... Le vinyle a des marques qui affectent la qualité sonore avec des grésillemements de façon temporaire ou un crépitement faible mais régulier.VG- (Très bon-/Very Good-) = Meme description que VG mais plus accentuée. G (Bon/Good)  = L'état de la pochette est VG avec en plus des écritures, un papier gondolé à cause de l'humidité, des déchirures sur les bords... La qualité du son est détériorée par les nombreuses lectures, il y a un souffle et des grésillements.P (Pauvre/Poor) = Etat médiocre avec des sautements. B (Mauvais/Bad) = La pochette est très abîmée avec des déchirures importantes, des traces et marques d'usure très importantes. Le vinyle n'est plus jouable correctement à cause des trop nombreuses rayures et défauts de surface.
