Description
This is an original copy of the Jihad Records’ 1965 lp “Black and Beautiful/Soul and Madness” featuring poet Leroi Jones / Amiri Baraka. Jihad was a label that was formed by Imamu Amiri Baraka to broadcast the work of the Jihad Cultural Center, Newark NJ and produced the classic free jazz lp “Sonny’s Time Now” by Sonny Murray and also the Leroi Jones/Sun Ra collaboration “A Black Mass”. Released on the Jihad label as 1001 (Stereo), the music on this lp is an interesting mix of poetry, chants, rhythms, and an uncredited band. Cover variations exist for this label, this copy comes in a thick textured solid black cover, which is in VG++ condition. Disc is very solid VG, with some visible scuffs and marks but still plays very well. Prohibitively rare piece from this legendary label.
