John Cage Meets Sun Ra Meltdown Records MPA-1 LP, 33 rpm 1987 first pressing (yellow labels) VG+/NM- (record) - very minor intermittent crackle

The only collaboration between John Cage and Sun Ra? Must be heard to be believed.
"[A] bare-chested black man with a hierographics-marked terrycloth towel wrapped around his middle walked onto the orange-draped stage holding a bowl of smoking incense in one palm, an ankh in his other fist. Right behind him was Marshall Allen, Ra's longtime alto-playing lieutenant; he raised an oblong black metal wind synthesizer to his lips and blew a weird electronic fanfare through it. Then came Ra, in a purple tunic with silver foil sleeves, a star studded cloth cap on his head so that only a fringe of orange-dyed hair peeked out over his ears; a tuft of neatly trimmed orange beard decorated his second chin. And with him: Cage as usual, in faded blue jeans and grey jacket over a blue denim workshirt. Cage sat at a table behind a microphone, while Ra began to play with his Yamaha DX7."

Goldmine Record Grading Standards:

Mint: Absolutely perfect in every way.

Near Mint (NM or M-): Nearly perfect, no visible defects, no surface noise. NM sleeves have no creases, ring wear, or seam splits.

Very Good Plus (VG+) or Excellent (E): May show slight signs of wear, slight warps, or minor signs of handling, that do not affect the listening experience. VG+ sleeves have only minor wear, such as a short split (one inch or less) at the bottom, or a cutout marking.

Very Good (VG): Lacks most of the original gloss found on factory-fresh records. Groove wear and light scratches are visible. The record has surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft , but the noise will not overpower the music. Label may include minor writing, tape or a sticker. A VG sleeve has many signs of handling, such as obvious but not overwhelming ring wear, creases, seam splitting, or handwriting or stamps.

Good (G), Good Plus (G+) or Very Good Minus (VG-): Significant surface noise and groove wear, and the label is worn, with significant ring wear, heavy writing, or obvious damage. G/VG- sleeves have distracting ring wear, seam splits, or heavy writing.

Poor (P) and Fair (F): Records are cracked, impossibly warped, or skip and/or repeat when an attempt is made to play them. Sleeves are heavily damaged.
