Grading Policy
All records are play graded. A "split grade" (EX/EX+) means that the record falls between or has characteristics of both grades. If the vinyl's audio qualities differ significantly from its visual qualities--that is, if a record sounds better than it looks--I'll indicate that in the grade explanation. With respect to accuracy, sometimes I use the word "strong", or an additional "+" (plus) or "-" (minus) next to the grade. If only one label is shown in the photo, the label on the record's flip side is guaranteed to be in the same condition (or better) as the one shown.
NEAR MINT Has no obvious signs of wear; vinyl may have a few mild sleeve marks that do not influence the audio quality. Often, in order to be more specific, I'll use a plus symbol or a minus symbol with this grade (NM+ and NM-).
EX+ (or VG++) Vinyl is glossy; has a small amount of very-light scuffs; these imperfections will not cause distraction during playback; a minimal degree of soft surface noise may be heard during the recording's silent or quietest passages.
EXCELLENT (or VG+) Very-light scuffs and light-surface scratches will be present (moreso than an EX+ record), but they still will not cause skips or repeats. May have varied lighter degrees of audible surface wear; enjoyable for the majority of listeners.
VERY GOOD Some scuffs and surface scratches may cause more noticeable noise, but they will still not cause skips or repeats. Surface noise on a VG record will not overpower the music.
VG- Vinyl will be dulled. It will have many scuffs and surface-scratches, but the record will still play all the way through without skips or repeats. Surface noise will often be consistently present, and--although it competes strongly for the audio forefront--may still fall away to a significant degree during the record's passages containing heavy instrumentation.
