LOU DONALDSON “The Time Is Right” Blue Note RVG, LAM, DG, P, BLP 4025 mono Vinyl
This is the 1960, first edition, RVG-stamped, Deep Groove, Laminated Cover, “P” pressing of LOU DONALDSON’s “The Time Is Right” on the "47 West 63rd” labels of Blue Note BLP 4025. Musicians include Lou Donaldson, Horace Parlan, Blue Mitchell, Laymon Jackson, Dave Bailey, Ray Barretto.
VINYL plays with consistent light surface noise (i.e, crackle, static, ?? or ????, relative to the volume of the music/instruments), with occasional pops and ticks (repeating tick: Side 1, #1; Side 2, #1; repeat light groove-wear throughout Side 1). But ensemble sections are clear, dynamic and strong. No distortion. No skips. Good gloss. Handful of hairline marks, 2 feelable. (If you can’t feel it, you won’t hear it). The Deep Groove "47 West 63rd” labels are generally clean, spindle marks under direct light. See photos.
LAMINATED COVER is in lovely shape, some marker ink and scuffing on top left-hand corner. Seams and spine almost perfect. “BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC.,” 43 West 61st St., New York 23” back jacket shows aging, stains, ink signature, and two large taped sections, running width of back cover. This LP was play-tested on a high-end audio system. RECORD CLEANED ON VPI 16.5 VINYL CLEANER.
