Bronx baron Lord Finesse is robbin' the hood in a new gilded age, where everything is up for speculative grabs, at least, that is, in the instrumentals game. 90s hip-hop is the kernel focus of The SP 1200 Project: Sounds & Frequencies In Technicolor, a 17-track big bowl of boom-bap brilliance. Troubled by the overly compressed sound aggressively leveraged by today's all-pervading streaming services, and determined to survive the crossfire of the loudness war, Finesse saw to it that he'd look within, attending to his own emotive dynamism as a trigger for the sonic. With unreleased tracks once meant for Big L and Grand Puba, now polished alongside longtime collaborator Davel "Bo" McKenzie, the result is a textured journey from the cinematic strings of 'Symphonic Collective' to the synth-heavy funk of 'Electric Montage'.
