And here's a spectacular original WAR DEPARTMENT RADIO PROGRAM TRANSCRIPTION DISC containing one complete 30-minute episode of the greatest of all radio adventures - "THE LONE RANGER". This is rebroadcast of a domestic radio series produced and recorded especially for the Armed Forces Radio Service.
This program features the story of a pint-sized, quick-draw U.S. Marshall named PEACEFUL PARKER entering the wild town of DEADWOOD - challenged by BRONCO TABOR and his ruthless band of toughs. Parker enlists the services of a local businessman named Toby to serve as Judge supporting his efforts to clean up the town. Hearing that the LONE RANGER is near town, Tabor arranges for someone to impersonate the masked man, committing crimes and terrorizing the citizens in order to force Parker and the town to spurn his assistance. Tabor's plan pays off when Parker arrests TONTO and rides off to arrest the Ranger at his camp outside of town.
The musical intermission is a song by the SONS OF THE PIONEERS.
TONTO breaks out of jail when Scout pulls the bars out of the wall, and rides off to warn the Lone Ranger and Dan Reid. He succeeds, and when Parker approaches the camp they face off in a showdown. Will the Ranger survive? Will Tabor's plan succeed? Will Tonto ever enter a town where he doesn't get beat up or jailed? There's only one way to find out, Kemosabe ... better buy the disc!
This episode was broadcast in the USA on July 26, 1943. This recording would be different than US-circulated shows, because of the special introduction and the Sons of the Pioneers songs. It is marked as program #10 on the label. It contains the complete show introduction and is unique because of the wartime production of the disc. The LONE RANGER programs were reissued in syndication well into the 1950s, but this is an actual contemporary wartime program.
This is an original 16" WAR DEPARTMENT disc, issued by the AFRS and carried on a submarine to entertain the sailors during their missions in the Pacific Theatre of War. It is in a protective sleeve.
The disc is clean and uncracked; the recording is in very nice condition with no skips or scratches.
