Here it is, in all its Audio Glory – simply one of the most coveted, elusive, RCA Living Stereo albums ever released. The acoustic dynamics of this audiophile Layton-Mohr masterpiece are nothing short of amazing. Nothing – absolutely nothing – not even the most recent audiophile reissues on Classic Records label come close to reproducing the clarity, transparency, dynamics and sonic drama of this recording. This album practically never shows up on eBay (we believe less than 15 copies have been offered on eBay in the entire history of the Company) and almost never in near mint condition. Bid on this beauty now, or lose your sleep later
This is a wonderful album with the great Byron Janis as the soloist on piano. Catalog # LSC-2237 this may be the greatest stereo recorded version of Rachmaninoff's "Piano Concerto No. 3 in d Minor, Op. 30. The conductor is Charles Munch leading the Boston Symphony Orchestra. With the duo of Richard Mohr as producer and Lewis Layton as engineer, RDC again has a musical masterpiece. The piano is wonderful in this recording. I think it is spot-miked just right. This is of course a early triple track master tape in the great acoustics of Symphony Hall, in Boston. The vinyl has matrix numbers 1/S 1/S. Absolutly stunning acoustics. Byron Janis is at his prime in this recording. I hate to part with it.
"RCA Living Stereo" recordings - mostly classical, but also a handful of pop and easy listening titles - were made under the supervision of the most knowledgeable technicians and engineers on earth. The sound is simply amazing. On mint or near mint copies , quiet passages are so quiet - and the surface noise so conspicuously absent - that you will not even realize that your stylus has hit the surface of the record until the music starts. The highs are high, and the lows are very low. You are going to need a subwoofer and a hypersensitive tweeter to express some of these tonal ranges appropriately. This is the music for the ears, heart, soul, mind and guts alike.
THIS IS A NO-RESERVE AUCTION!

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant). For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(c) The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.
(d) The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).
(e) Stereo pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its mono counterpart. The mix is more graphic, the sound resolution more precise, and the channel separation (which does not exist on mono version) adds a whole new dimension to the music. Also, the stereo mixes are (by definition) somewhat different than on the mono version. We estimate that mono copies of this album outnumber stereo copies by a ratio of at least 5:1.
(f) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

- Cover has a partially split top seam (between 1 and 2 inches / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)
- Cover has some fraying/wear along the spine
- Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2 (front side) and 3 (back side)
- Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.
