London trio Little Barrie return with their first album since the loss of Virgil Howe, a gap that inevitably colours how this one lands, even before you hear a note. It was recorded alongside a more experimental companion, but this set leans into the band's core instincts, tighter structures, a clearer pull towards rhythm and blues. The shift shows up in the playing. 'More Bad Miles Of Road' runs on a clipped guitar figure that repeats with slight variations, the drums locking into a steady backbeat rather than drifting. 'It Isn't Soul' strips things further, bass pushed forward, guitar lines kept short and precise. Then 'December' opens out, chords allowed to ring, the tempo easing just enough to let the melody sit. It feels considered without losing momentum.
