Description
Here is a mega rare, original US mono copy of Link Wray's killer Jack the Ripper lp, released in 1963? on the Swan label (S-LP 510). Contains 12 killer tracks, 11 of them instrumental, all with a rockabilly, surf, or garage feel.
Link Wray was one of the most influential, yet unrecognized rock guitarists of all time. His earlier recordings no doubt paved the way for the surf/garage style of the 60's, and for punk, hard rock and psychobilly in later years.
As mentioned, this is a very hard to find original Swan pressing, and not a recent resissue. Original copies only show up on Ebay US occasionally and sell for big bucks....I've never seen or heard of another copy here in Australia!
I would rate the thick, cardboard cover at (VG-). Some edge/corner/shelf wear. Neat, inconspicuous 5" tape repair on bottom edge, 9" tape repair on top edge, and 3" tape repair to spine. No stickers, writing, stains, etc. Would have graded higher if not for seam splits/repairs.
Visually, the vinyl is (G+) to (VG-). Clean, retains most of its original gloss. Has numerous light marks/scuffs on both sides. Plays with constant, mild background noise, with the odd pop here and there. Still an enjoyable listen! No skips/sticking detected.
Labels are (VG). Has obvious spindle marks and light rubbing, otherwise clean.
This lp never shows up in Australia, so grab it while you can!
Can be picked up from Mt Martha, Vic, or will post Australia wide in a cardboard record mailer and padded bag for $9.50 flat rate.
Thanks for looking, good luck!price rating
