Description
Ok, back to Rudy May's collection!
Recently we purchased the private collection of a Mr. Rudy May. Mr. May was an employee of Decca Records for nearly 40 years and during that time was involved in nearly every aspect of recording and record manufacture there is. His personal collection - which stayed in his family until our purchase - contains 33's, 45's & 78's. There are promo issues, test pressings and acetates. I'm sure more than a few items here are quite unique. Over the next few weeks we will be offering a good number of these items up for auction.
As always we combine shipping to reduce the cost to you. We ship anywhere the US Postal Service does and offer any service they provide. We are a 100% positive feedback seller so bid with complete confidence. If you have any questions about an item listed please feel free to ask. Good luck and happy bidding!
These are 78 rpm records. They are heavier and more fragile than vinyl LP's. This will impact shipping costs due to their weight and the extra packaging needed to ensure safe delivery. This is especially true for overseas shipments. I have experience in shipping 78's and have never had one break in the mail but I must highly recommend insurance on these items. I will not be responsible for damage caused during transit.
Artist: Leslie Howard
Title: Hamlet
Year: Unsure.
Label & Number: I'm assuming Decca 61474C & 61473A
Original/Reissue: O
Mono/Stereo: M
Country: USA
Vinyl Condition: Both discs exhibit a good amount of surface wear and few feelable marks. nothing here is too serious or will prevent play but you will hear some of it.
Cover Condition: N/A
Comments: 2 single sided test pressing 78's. Leslie Howard is reciting Hamlet on these. I've read he performed this on Broadway in 1936. I'm not that up on my Shakespeare so I don't know how much is on these discs but they do contain the "Cleave the ear with horrid speech" and "What dreams may come" portions. Fun stuff. A great item for fans of Leslie, Shakespeare or Hamlet!

How we visually grade our records:
Mint (M): Album is still sealed in original shrinkwrap and has never been opened.
Near Mint (NM): Album has been opened and most likely played but is blemish free and as close to new as possible.
Excellent Plus (EX+) Album is very close to NM but may show more signs that it has been played.
Excellent (EX): Album does show the most minor signs of usage, nothing that would effect sound quality.
Very Good Plus (VG+): Album will show some signs of wear and may have some minor scratches or scuffs. These albums we will usually play to gauge the sound quality. If there are any issues we will post them.
Very Good (VG): Album has obvious signs of usage. There are most likely blemishes that will affect sound quality.
How we grade our covers :
Mint (M): Cover is still sealed in original shrinkwrap and has never been opened.
Near Mint (NM): Cover is in new condition and may still be in it’s shrinkwrap but has been opened.
Excellent (EX): Cover is in great shape but will show the most minor signs of usage. Small amounts of wear on the corners or seams are possible, but no writing or other blemishes.
Very Good Plus (VG+): Cover will shows signs that it was used. No seam splits or heavy wear, but corners and seams will show wear. There may be the possibility of a previous owners name written on the cover, stickers or bent corners, etc. Cover graphics may have flecking or show a ring from the record.
Very Good (VG): Cover will show heavy wear on seams and corners. Seam splits are possible. Cover graphics will be worn. Covers with heavy writing on them will earn this ranking.
Good (G): Cover is in poor shape. Generally we will not list albums with covers in this shape unless the album itself is in excellent shape and the cover is the only concern or if the album is extremely rare or valuable and there may still be interest in spite of condition.
Album and cover grading is not an exact science and is subject to the opinion of the grader. We strive to be as precise as possible. If you have any questions about our grading system or a particular item please don’t hesitate to contact us.
