LEE MORGAN "The Sidewinder", RVG, P, Blue Note 4157 Mono Vinyl
This is the first edition, 1959, "Van Gelder" stamped, "P" pressing of LEE MORGAN’s "The Sidewinder", on the "New York USA" labels of Blue Note BLP 4157. Musicians include Lee Morgan – trumpet, Joe Henderson – tenor saxophone, Barry Harris – piano, Bob Cranshaw – bass, Billy Higgins – drums.
This VINYL plays with consistent low/medium level surface noise (i.e, static, ?? or ????
, relative to the volume of the music/instruments) with occasional ticks, but the instruments are very dynamic and powerful with clear transients, powerful extension and full tone. As with all first pressing Blue Notes, the powerful music signal largely overcomes surface imperfections. No distortion. No skips. Both sides have good gloss. Many hairline marks, none feelable. See photos. The “New York USA” labels are largely clear and clean, with spindle marks under direct light. Original Inner sleeve. See photos.
COVER is in excellent condition. Small drip of nail polish upper left. Corners worn, one corner chewed. See photos. Spine, top and lower seams excellent condition, some cracking, no splits. This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters). ALL RECORDS CLEANED ON VPI INDUSTRY STANDARD VPI 16.5 VINYL CLEANING MACHINE.
