This is probably the final time I’m going to do this, so get in on it.
So who am I and what’s up with all this RSD stuff and why is it listed?
I’m an individual who has been collecting and selling records for multiple decades. I have seen the vinyl industry rise and fall and rise again. RSD and everything associated with it is everything that’s wrong with the record industry today. It SHOULD BE about you, the fan – and me, the independent record store - connecting over our mutual love of both the format and the art.
SPOILER ALERT: IT’S NOT! The artists themselves don’t even approve of half of this stuff. RSD is a corporate entity in and of themselves - they see the Amoeba and Newbury stores of the world with the same eyes they see the TRUE INDIE Mom and Pop shops. The people who benefit from RSD are RSD themselves, record labels, wholesale distributors, HUGE stores, and flippers. Most stores won’t tell you this, but they fight just to break even on RSD - seriously.
Not that there aren’t positive elements to the event – it’s just…… well…. become VERY disheartening to say the least.
Anyway – if it’s listed, I HAVE IT. I’m not going to go out Saturday morning and get it to flip it. It’s sitting here next to me as I type this.
I don’t oversell, if you bought it, it’s yours.
TRANSPARENT PRICING POLICY: I AM NOT doing this to rake anyone over the coals on this stuff and charge double what list price is. HOWEVER, I NEED TO COVER eBay fees (they hit you coming and going with listing/final value/shipping final value fees), PayPal fees, and my shipping supplies. Sure, there’s a single digit percentage markup left – but if you knew the cost-vs-list price on records, you’d understand why A LOT of brick and mortar shops mark stuff well above list on a regular basis. I just want to make my margin and get this stuff in your hands.
Like I explained, it’s a flawed system. I’m doing my best to maintain some sort of integrity in this business. Because it’s not business to me, it’s a lot more than that. At the same time, I have bills to pay…
