LED ZEPPELIN - IV LP (UK 'red-plum' Atlantic 2401 012, 1971
This is mega rare UK 1st press (A3/B4 - with 'Pecko Duck' & 'Porky' scratched on dead wax) of this November 1971 masterpiece - with the EARLIEST label! Supposedly just a few hundred copies were pressed with that label design!
Here are the 4 differences between this EARLIEST design and the slightly later, popular issue sold in hunderds of thousands copies:
- the name "LED ZEPPELIN' is smaller and positioned towards the bottom of label - on reissue was printed in larger letters and positioned towards the top of label!
- the Peter Grant credit (as Executive Producer) is present - on reissue it was removed!
- the line "UNDER LICENCE FROM ATLANTIC RECORDING CORP." is positioned above the white border - on reissue it's placed within the white border!
- the group's publisher: Superhype Music Inc. is omitted - on reissue the both music publishers (Kinney Music/Superhype Music Inc.) are included.
In March 2009 much worse copy (graded as VG+/VG+) was sold on Ebay (by reputed seller) for 450 pounds. This copy is in far, far better Near Mint (near perfect) copy - most probably impossible to upgrade! This copy is a dream!
Cover: MINT- This is perfect cover made of matt (and dark grey inside the pocket) paper. There is even NO hint of ringwear; NO shelfwears at all; NO surface marks on front, back and inside; NO creases along the spine; absolutely NO writings; the spine is untouched - with NO single dot of wears; the opening edge is razor sharp - with NO feathering! The top edge is perfectly untouched - with NO sign of wear; the bottom edges does have a very slight wears in places - mostly near the right corner. It's hardly visible at all. The only, very slight flaw is a very light crease on very lower right corner (1 inch long) - that's why it's not graded as full MINT! The original, flipback, dark grey and little 'hairy' inner sleeve is in a nice shape - with light 2-3 wrinkles only. All in all - fantastic cover with NO HIDDEN FLAWS! Record: MINT Record looks like being UNPLAYED - with full and pristine gloss! Under the strong light I did not find any mark - even tiniest hairline! Unbelievable!!! I have checked both sides carefully and I have to say the playback was really stunning - with all positive issues and with just a very few (3-4) single & light clicks between the 1st and 2nd track. Nothing more! NO distortion & NO noises. The beginnings are just perfectly quiet. Both labels are immaculate - with NO sign of being played!
This copy came from the serious collector who in the past did not have a time to listen his huge collection... That's why it's in (nearly) untouched condition!
You can bid with confidence – check my feedback, please. My grading system is very strict – with very slight difference between M and EX. As a collector too I perfectly know, what does it mean to buy an overgraded record!!!
All my records (including 7-inches) were cleaned on Clearaudio Matrix machine and are ready to listen – without any disturbing noises or crackles caused by dirt.
