LED ZEPPELIN III A5 / B5 Atlantic 2401022 UK 1970 Red/Plum Label
This very early very early red/plum pressing has the misspelt 'Celebration' credit on the label which of course should read as 'Celebration Day'. The audio plays to an immaculate standard and the vast majority is 'as new'. The clarity and depth is extremely impressive.
The publishing credits are 'Warner Bros. Music Ltd'.
The famous Aleister Crowley quotes 'Do what thou wilt' and 'So mote it be' are etched on the dead wax and the rotating wheel still works perfectly.

Visual grading
This vinyl has been superbly looked and still has an incredible jet black glossy sheen. There is not very much spindle wear and has only ever been lightly played and that is confirmed by the stunning quality of the audio. There are only a small number of very faint sleeve removal hairlines and one tiny (very tiny!) 2mm scratch on S2. At first glance this vinyl looks 'as new' it is visually stunning. A superb example. It is so rare to find a red/plum pressing as clean as this and especially one with the rare 'Celebration' misspelling.
Play grading
'Immigrant Song' has a power and depth that could not be improved upon and the audio plays to a Mint standard without doubt. This is most 'complete' version of this classic I have heard in a long time. There is quite simply no interference of any kind and the clarity and stunning bass line is so strong. There is no distortion on the top end and this is what you call a stunning start to the album.
With complete silence in the dead wax the quiet intro on 'Friends' then plays with perfect precision. There is not even a solitary dust tick let alone anything louder! This is as good as it gets and the audio continues in exactly the same way with no interference. The clarity is of a record pressed yesterday not nearly 50 years ago! Once again this is pure Mint audio from start to finish.
'Celebration Day' has only a tiny hint of barely audible static on the intro, more like mega quiet dust ticks really. Hardly worth a mention! Once the drums 'come in' the audio is 'high end' and carries on in the same way. So often this will have some distortion on the top end but that is certainly not the case here. This is another example of a vinyl so well preserved down the years and not often played. There is so much 'sound' in the mix but there is no 'muddiness' whatsoever, the definition of each note could not be any clearer. The long fade out also plays perfectly with no 'background'.
'Since I've Been Loving You' is so clear from the very first groove with only a small number of light dust ticks that are in no way intrusive. With so many quiet sections there is plenty of room for interference but in all honesty there isn't any! It plays beautifully and there is absolutely nothing that intrudes on the 'high end' quality of the audio. Page's solo is so powerful and there is barely any distortion. There is a crackle type sound in the middle but it is very much 'lost' in the music and could easily be missed. The very quiet section following has 2/3 crackles again and minimal static and then plays with superb audio to the very end. A hint of distortion maybe but only very minor.
'Out On The Tiles' ends the side with stunning power. This final track always has some distortion as any LZ fan knows and it is just a question of much. There is relatively little here and it remains a very impressive listen with no other 'background'. It plays with great depth and the instrumental end section is superb! This section of course plays with such a strong bass line and it plays fantastically well here and again the fade out has no 'background' of any kind. A wonderful end to the side.

The very quiet intro on 'Gallows Pole' has a small number of light clicks for about 10 seconds and then plays very clearly with only a modicum of very light static in the background. As the track 'kicks' into gear the audio is stunning and this continues when Bonham joins the fray. Whilst the intro may be VG+ from that point on it can only be graded as Mint- the quality is out of this world! There is no distortion on the top level and the sonic quality is of the highest standard possible. There is no 'background' on the extended fade out. So yes aside from the intro an absolutely stunning version.
'Tangerine' is another track with a very quiet intro and yet again it plays with astounding clarity. It is 'as new' it is that good and rarely do you hear this intro playing as impeccably as this. It continues in much the same way with only one faint 'tick' and no static or crackle. I cannot put into words just how stunning the clarity and the depth is on this track. 100% stunning and the same applies to the mega quiet ending.
I am delighted to say 'That's The Way' plays to the same breathtaking standard. If ever there was a Mint version to be heard then this is it! I always go on about clarity and sonic quality but that is how any vinyl should be judged. The clarity from beginning to end could not be any better as there is just no interference whatsoever. This has to be best version I have ever heard, there is not even a single dust tick. No clicks, pops, static or crackle. Wow I cannot believe what I'm hearing!
'Bron-y-aur Stomp' and the 'Hats off to (Roy) Harper' end the side with perfect audio once more. It is no exaggeration to say they both play almost 'as new' the clarity and depth is amazing. There is just one faint 'tick' on the final track but this is without doubt a fantastic end to an album that plays with Mint- quality for the vast majority.
In summary this rare 'Celebration' misprint red/plum press plays with a sublime 'high end' quality from start to finish. As my feedback confirms I grade with integrity and if I say a track plays 'as new' I am not exaggerating! It is not in my interests to do so as I want any album to book a one way ticket and not a return!! This is the most impressive 'Celebration' vinyl I have ever sold and whilst there are a small number of clicks at the start of S2 they are quiet and not particularly intrusive. In all honesty the vast majority of this record is of Mint- quality and the minus is only used as it isn't sealed! The gatefold is also very clean as is the original inner. A stunning 'package' overall that will not disappoint.
The Gatefold
This fully laminated E.J. Day gatefold is in excellent condition with only minor wear and the 'wheel' rotates perfectly. The 'open' top and bottom edges of the front cover are very clean with only a little rubbing and the edges of the back cover are even better with hardly any wear at all. The spine is also very impressive with no obvious wear. The corners have only a modicum of wear - one small crease top left and a little more creasing bottom right. The opening edge just has a very small amount of handling wear. The laminate throughout has no splits or lifting and is in great condition. The front cover is super clean with only a couple of faint scratches and the back cover has very little of the discolouration that you so often see, just a small amount running down the spine. There is also one very small mark in the bottom corners. The inside of the gatefold is in lovely condition with only a couple of tiny 'specks' and faint marking at the top and bottom of the inner spine. Overall this is a very impressive version of this gatefold.
Inner sleeve
The original poly-lined 'Plastic Bags Can Be Dangerous' inner has no splits, just a little age related fading around the edges and some minor creasing. It has 1170 printed on one bottom corner which relates to the original release date.
The labels
The red/plum labels are in excellent condition with only a small number of faint 'spotting' marks but no other marking or writing. As mentioned already there is not very much spindle wear either.
