RL SS Monarch on BOTH SIDES

MATRIX INFO:

ST-A-691671-MO

Side one and two BOTH read RL SS

Also have LW on both sides.

What makes this specific copy especially SCARCE is the presence of “RL SS” etched on both sides.

The “SS” indicates Sterling Sound Studios where Ludwig cut it.

In my research, I have found copies for ST-A-691671-MO with RL only or Copies with RL SS on only one side.

I have not personally come across another example with RL SS etched on both sides for this exact matrix (ST-A-691671-MO), including comparable listings and Discogs references.

This may represent a less commonly documented variation, making it particularly sought after for collectors. I have read in some blogs that people specifically hunt for this version.

Record PLAY TESTED VG on 1960s Magnavox Imperial Micromatic record changer with Audio-Technica AT-VMN95EN Elliptical stylus.

Magnavox Stereo 750 receiver and 1969 Magnavox colonial console speakers.

Many of the songs sound awesome!

There are lots of surface scratches but not too noticeable by touch besides Side One on the first two tracks.

Does have noticeable surface noise on quiet parts of side one.

I played a bunch of songs in the video for this listing so you can hear.

I can send additional videos of recording upon request.

There are a some skips throughout the record but this is extremely common on the Robert Ludwig pressings. That’s literally why there are so few copies of these that were made. The mix was so loud that it caused the stylus to jump off the record so the pressing plants stopped pressing them!

“WHOLE LOTTA LOVE” into “WHAT IS SHOULD NEVER BE“ has some skips and pops into halfway of “What Is“ then it starts playing a lot better.

Pretty enjoyable listen after that.

“THANK YOU” has several pops but no skips.

SIDE TWO plays much better.

“HEARTBREAKER” has a few pops to start but plays nice after.

“RAMBLE ON” you can hear the surface noise on quiet parts but rocks once the song gets going 🤘

“MOBY DICK” and “BRING IT ON HOME” sound really good 💥

I’d rather you have low expectations of playback from my description and be pleasantly surprised with the overall listening experience of one of the most fabled record pressings of all-time.

Seams: The original cardboard jacket has NO SEAM SPLITTING besides one small part on the inside fold of the gatefold. The gatefold holds together perfectly and displays beautifully.

Vinyl still has gloss to it.

Please look at all of the photos. I tried taking pictures at different angles and under different lighting to show the surface of the record accurately. I'd be happy to provide any additional pictures or information!

Contrary to what some might think, the Gold Record Award hype sticker is common and a desirable feature of the first pressings. Album was released on October 22, 1969 and certified gold by the RIAA on November 10, 1969. Weeks later.

Hype sticker was applied to the album jackets by record stores and pressing plants to add to the promotion.
