Description
LED ZEPPELIN 1 (FIRST ALBUM) 1969
Atlantic 588171
Matrix: 588171 A//1 & B//1 stamped (uncorrected)
Sleeve by MacNeil Press London
This is the rarest absolute first pressing of the vinyl record with the error in the Superhype credits on the side 1 label (Superhype
tracks 1,3 & 4, Jewel track 3), this was quickly corrected in later copies. Although the record is very worn it’s an affordable original
copy of this fantastic ground breaking and iconic album. 52 years old! It’s rare to find this label/matrix variation on an ‘orange
lettered’ sleeve copy. It's normally found on the much more expensive ‘turquoise lettered’ variant.
The vinyl record is in graded as in FAIR condition. Record has been well played with many visible scratches and scuffs. The
Orange/Plum label has no writing, there is some spindle wear.
Sleeve Condition graded as VERY GOOD overall. With Orange lettering to front and grey stripe to front bottom. Uptight n’ outasight
fan club reference to bottom rear. Spine detail is legible. There is some laminate lift to spine on front and rear and creasing to right of
front. There is very minor ring wear to front and rear.
The inner sleeve/poly lined paper sleeve has the detail ‘British patent No. 800513 & 973939. MADE IN ENGLAND 4913 000 5 28.’
A new inner sleeve is also provided with the record.
Play testing
On playing, the record is warped so there is some arm movement that does not effect play on my turntable. There are intrusive loud
crackles in some places, quieter in others. The record jumps twice at the beginning of side 2 track track 4. Otherwise, the album has
a loud and dynamic sound and is still an authentic listen.
Detailed track-by-track listening comments:
Good Time Bad Times Quiet Non-intrusive background crackle only. A few louder crackles at end.
Babe I’m Gonna leave You Louder more intrusive crackles and pops, especially at end.
You shook Me Background crackles, louder and more intrusive in places.
Dazed and Confused intermittent loud background crackles, quieter as the track progresses.
Your Time is Gonna Come Intrusive crackles and pops over the organ section. Good sensitivity on acoustic Guitar. Rest of
track quieter less-intrusive crackles and some pops.
Black Mountain Side Background non-intrusive crackles. Sounds great
Communication breakdown Quiet less intrusive background crackles. Sounds great
I can’t quit you baby A couple of jumps and loud scratch/crackling at start for a few rotations. Crackles and Pops thereafter.
How many more times Crackles less audible. Great acoustic and depth to sound.
Please look carefully at the pictures as part of the description. The item pictured is what you will receive.
The record will be sent packed out of the sleeve and encased in a plastic outer sleeve in a thick card record mailer with an extra stiffener.
