Description
Background
Apparently A1/B1 matrices versions of this album do not (officially) exist, rumoured to
have been destroyed for one reason or another, but at least one copy has surfaced so
obviously not all were - this version apparently has a different track banding to later pressings.
The A2/B2 edition is therefore regarded as the REAL first pressing. It has textured Island labels indicating that it was pressed at a Polydor plant. By 1970 Island had switched most of their pressing to EMI who used a smooth label.
Normally the issues that are found are smooth label with A2/B4 matrices - i.e. EMI pressed from late 1969 to 1970. This, in fact, covers the vast majority of the pink Island label issues of this album.
It would seem that (excepting the A1/B1 anomaly) all the pink label A sides have the A2 or A3 matrix. The B sides had either B2 (rough label, extremely rare), B4 (smooth label, more common) or B3 - previously only rumoured to exist.
As you can see from the above, this record is a collectors dream, it has Side 1 A2 , Side 2 B3 on the smooth pink labels with recessed grooves.
AGAIN, THIS HAS THE A2/B3 MATRIX #S.
Not the common A2/B4. See other pink label listings to CONFIRM this!
Studio Album, released in 1969 Songs / Tracks Listing 1. 21st Century Schizoid Man (7:20) including - a. Mirrors 2. I Talk To The Wind (6:05) 3. Epitaph (8:47) including - a. March For No Reason - b. The Dance Of The PuppetsFrom my own collection as I have just bought an inferior one thus
Enabling me to sell this one.
This is a true rarity on the the basis of the matrix numbers as specified.
The cover, record, labels are near perfect to look at.
COVER:-Only the front side name label lets the cover down
Although I do wonder if any relation to the famous E J Day Printer of album covers in the sixties to mid seventies.
Only Light wear to the usually worn out fragile spine.
Colors are vibrant and there is not writing.
One of the better copies of this fragile non laminated TRUE cover
Please see pictures. NOTE THE CORRECT COVER WITH E J DAY CREDIT.
THIS IS CRUCIAL
LABELS ARE EX+
SIDE 1 VINYL VISUAL:- I COUNT TWO/THREE VERY LIGHT HAIRLINES THAT DETRACT FROM WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN NEAR MINT.
GLEAMS LIKE A MIRROR. SO I WOULD SUGGEST A STRONG EX. SIDE ONE PLAYBACK IS A STRONG EX
SIDE 2 VINYL VISUAL:- I COUNT ONE CIRCUMFERENTIAL VERY FINE MARK (COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING) THAT DETRACTS FROM WHAT WOULD
HAVE BEEN A NEAR MINT VISUAL. THIS MARK CAUSES THE NEEDLE TO JUMP BUT DOES GO ON TO PLAY THROUGH WITHOUT STICKING.
THE START OF MOONCHILD THERE IS A 1 REVOLUTION SKIP BUT I CANNOT MAKE OUT WHY.
BEYOND THAT, GLEAMS LIKE A MIRROR. SO I WOULD SUGGEST EX VISUAL. PLAYBACK IS EX OUTWITH THE MENTIONED,
THE RECORD HAS THAT BRAND NEW GLEAM AND REALLY HAS TO BE SEEN TO BELIEVED AS THE PICTURES DO NOT DO IT JUSTICE.
Side 1: ILPS 9111 A?2 1 1 INV6 ? ?2 14
Side 2: ILPS 9111 B//3 1 1 4
THIS RECORD WITH THOSE 'RUMOURED' MATRIX NUMBER COMBINATIONS, ADDED TO THE FACT
THAT YOU HAVE THE COVER WITH THE PRINTERS CREDIT, PUTS THIS ON
PAR WITH THE BEATLES WHITE ALBUM EXPORT,
YOU BUY IT FOR THE ARTEFACT. IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE MENTIONED ,
THIS RECORD WOULD BREEZE IN AS NEAR MINT.
And that is no exaggeration.
Well worth the money.
