Description
Here is a fine early copy of one of the best Crimso albums. This is a Charity sale - the album was a kind donation to Naomi House, a Hampshire hospice charity.
I "do the records" for the local charity shop, so am e-baying this for them.
Briefly, great cover, torn shrink-wrap with "King Crimson" sticker, and a very enjoyable copy of the record.
In more detail - Cover is excellent, flat with sharp edges and corners. Minor yellowing due to age, especially on the excellent spine. The remains of the shrink-wrap have protected it very well!
The shrink-wrap is severely torn but all there (I think..), with the sticker intact, but bent/creased. See photo.
Plain white inner sleeve.
Visual inspection shows a record in excellent condition - hardly any visible scratches or marks.
I can see a slight scratch going around parallel with the grooves, at the start of the track The Talking Drum, where the stylus has gone down a bit hard in selecting that track to play. There's also a LIGHT scratch across side A track one.
I have play-tested the record, good and loud on high-end hi-fi - a pleasure, for a Crimso fan!
Crimso had, to put it mildly, a sense of dynamics. Some parts are very, very quiet (and you can hear any tiny flaw in the vinyl), and some parts are VERY LOUD indeed.
On this copy, the loud bits are amazing, with all the original sound quality and power. The quiet bits also sound fine, no distortion or persistent crackling. A lot of the quiet passages play with no crackling
There are isolated crackles - only a couple of short instances of hearing a scratch (repeated clicks), at the start of "The Talking Drum", and somewhere else.
The delicate gamelan/xylophone start of "Larks Tongues Part One" has a few crackles at the start (as we often find with the outer grooves on a record) but plays very well after that, despite being very quiet.
Some of the clicks are dust. The sound quality of the record as it is, is awesome, but professional cleaning may get a few more of the crackles out of it.
This description probably places it as "VG-Ex". The loud bits are "Ex", quiet bits VG because of crackling here-and-there, although the music sounds just as it should in-between crackles.
I can accept returns within one week - after that, I'll have given the proceeds over to the Charity.
I see from other E-Bay sales, a price of £90 for a top copy of this. This is a VG-Excellent record with an excellent cover. Starting price for the Auction at £20.
Get a great record, and help a Hospice at the same time - go to it!
