Description

Kotekan - PERCUSSION AND… - Very Early Keith Johnson Reference Record RR-3 - Limited Edition White Label, Pressure Pressed - RARE & AMONG THE VERY BEST!

Some records have a life of their own.

This certainly is one. Of Kotekan, an adventurous ensemble, to say the least, comprised of members whose common spirit for the experimental is based on their experiences in Western classical, baroque, avant-garde, jazz, balinese gamelan, and improvisation.

That said, find here a "heady, explosive, weird, bizarre" listening experience, as the S.F. Chronicle put it, as Kotekan transcribe many works to fit their instrumentation.

Of the works, there's Cage's THE PERILOUS NIGHT (6th Movement), Ravel's LA FLUTE ENCHANTEE, Kvistad's DREAMING OF ANOTHER, Green's RAINBOW RIPPLES, Peck's LIFT-OFF, and Sir Henry Bishop's LO, HEAR THE GENTLE LARK.

Now, for the fun part.

These are played with 9 bass drums, 1 bass flute, 2 Bavarian goat bells, 1 brake drum, 2 cowbells, 1 double bass, 1 flute, 1 fluted cake pan, 2 Herdenglocken, 3 marimbas, 1 nightingale call, 1 soprano, 1 spring coil, 2 tam tams, 3 temple blocks, 2 vibraphones, and 1 xylophone.

I promise you: You have never heard anything like this.

An unrecognized classic in vinyl literature, I dare say; after all, in California that day, they say Stomu Yamashta and Tristan Fry were in attendance, oh yes, right beside the wild-eyed children of imagination.

Cover has a touch of poke through up top (nothing serious); record within is all ashine. Near mint and better in the playing.

Sonically on par with the very best in your vinyl collection.
