CARRIES ON WHERE THE BAND WERE GOING ON THE GALACTIC ZOO DOSSIER LP (SEE MY OTHER AUCTIONS).

Fantastic condition original copy of classic UK 70s progressive album!!

Highly collectable original 1973 UK 1st pressing LP from this great late 60s early 70s UK psych / prog underground band fronted by the legendary 'God Of Hell Fire'Arthur Brown. Very rare psych / prog album. Superb UK original of this truly amazing album.

"JOURNEY", the third and final album by ARTHUR BROWN's Psych / Space Rock outfit KINGDOM COME. Issued on Polydor in 1973, the album enhanced the notoriety of the band. Touching on the musical territory of fellow travellers HAWKWIND, "JOURNEY" is a masterwork and is now rightly regarded as a classic that deserves to be in any serious 70's prog / psych rock collection.

The "God Of Hell Fire" returns with another terrifying foreboding album full of dark progressive moods and psychedelic auras. Musically these guys were something special for sure.....In case anyone listens to this album for the first time I warn you that you may suffer severe brain damage! I guess you could place it somewhere in the company of a cross of good ol' VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR with maybe hints of ATOMIC ROOSTER, PINK FLOYD and touches of VANILLA FUDGE. A necessary album to own in your 70's prog / psych rock collection. But again I warn you it may blow your mind!

(The vinyl surfaces on this 1973 UK first pressing still retain their original unmarked full shiny gloss and intense dark sheen. Even under a strong light I can't see any marks of note at all!! That is not really surprising because this LP has only been played 2 or 3 times by myself from new!! Both sides play superbly well delivering fantastic audio throughout with great powerful sound clarity. A strong MINT- condition 1st pressing of this truly mindblowing prog rock LP. I very much doubt if you can find a significantly better original UK copy.)

Labels: EX (+)

(The A-side label has a small circular ink stamp otherwise both labels are very clean and unmarked)

Sleeve: EX (+)

(The original 'MacNEILL PRESS'  fully laminated sleeve is in a solid excellent plus condition with just a small laminate crease on the front bottom right corner near the open out edge. The back of the sleeve is also superb with only the lightest of wear. The seams and spine are arrow straight all in beautiful shape with barely any rubbing or shelfwear to note...a fabulous and iconic prog rock cover)

1973 UK original Polydor label 1st pressing of the hard to find 3rd and final album by legendary UK early 70s psych/prog band Kingdom Come featuring the 'God Of Hell Fire' Arthur Brown!!

On offer here, from my own collection, is a superb MINT condition original UK 1st pressing of ARTHUR BROWN'S KINGDOM COME classic and rare 3rd and final album 'JOURNEY', issued on the UK 1st press Polydor Records label in 1973.

Before Marilyn Manson, before Alice Cooper, there was THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN, an R&B act whose hit song "Fire" set both the UK and US charts alight back in 1968. Considered one of the prime movers behind the British progressive underground scene, Brown's flamboyant stage act - flaming helmet, outlandish costumes, bizarre facial make-up and crazy, incendiary vocals - appropriately suited the band's manic, psychedelic sound. When they broke up in early 1969, Brown pursued some obscure and less exciting venues and slowly abandoned his R&B roots. He then resurfaced in 1971 and was back to his theatrical excesses (including his own on-stage crucifixion) with a new band called ARTHUR BROWN'S KINGDOM COME; this one a rocker, more adventurous and decidedly more progressive outfit. Through the course of three albums, the band saw a string of musicians incessantly going through the revolving doors of Brown's ministry. Not having much commercial success, however, they split up in 1973. Brown went on to cut a few solo albums and then disappeared somewhere in Texas to become a carpenter!

All three ARTHUR BROWN'S KINGDOM COME albums are a kind of collision between psychedelia and new wave, bearing a space-rock and typical ZAPPA-esque tomfoolery and featured a wild mix of progressive rock and demented theatrics, including Brown's simulated crucifixion. Kingdom Come often performed in full costume with makeup, and photos of Brown from this period clearly show him sporting a distinctive eye-makeup scheme.

The word 'crazy' may well have been dropped from the band name, but the music still contained that vital ingredient. After his one and only LP with THE CRAZY WORLD OF..., this next venture followed suit, with a doomy hammond orientated sound.

"JOURNEY" is the way, way out 3rd and final mindblowing LP released by the legendary British early 70s spaced out prog band KINGDOM COME and is a psychedelic journey filled with intergalactic whooshing and gushing keyboards, mellotron, synth spraws, hypnotic rhythms, spacy atmospheres all together built upon Arthur Brown in his peak of creativities...and flipped out lyrical content...the cat that brought you "FIRE" in '68 ...

This album is a phenomenal contribution to the whole Space-Rock/Psychedelic sub-genre of Prog. Vocalist, chief instigator Arthur Brown has assembled an amazing crew of 'trippers' to fulfill his vision of Space ; taking an amazing 'journey' through the cosmic myriad known to us as the universe.

Central to all pieces on the album is Arthur Brown and his (then) state-of-the-art Bentley drum machine, which sounds like an early analogue rhythm- box. The next feature sounds on the record comprise of the eccentric ARP 2600 Synth-twiddling and incredible Mellotron work of the 'barking mad' keyboardist Victor Peraino, absolutely integral to the whole vibe of the album. Together with a steady Bass-player and great lead-guitarist in Andy Dalby, the band presents us with a space-age, futuristic sounding recording, complete with subtle humour. Every piece is of interest, with really high highlights being the longer cuts ; 'Time Captives', 'Gypsy' and 'Superficial Roadblocks' which showcases the Mellotron in all its divine glory, and the rocking closer, 'Come Alive'. The shorter compositions are very good, too, including the very catchy song 'Spirit of Joy' with a melody worthy of getting stuck in your head.

I promise you the ACTUAL SOUND of this album is VERY DIFFERENT!! Maybe it's the drum machine, maybe it's Arthur's fantastically expressive voice, but I promise you this is a very original sounding record. It's one of those, put on the headphones at night and listen in a dark room sort of affairs--the recording is stellar. Conceptually spacy, trippy music. Some of the lyrics: We are Time Captains, we synthesize the rays power in your brain...Time Captains, network cosmic might learn your destiny, We are Time Captains, we write the Astral Records of History We're playing astral chords just to give you a thrill as we go; we'll take you aboard to where all soul brothers and sisters meld...Journey over all the depths of your soul. At times the playing is incredibly sparse, and the musical timbre of the individual instruments (especially the metallic sound of Phil Shutt's bass) really stand out. There are power chords galore on Spirit of Joy, and a very cool synthesizer ending to Comes Alive. Triangles is an odd piece in which notes played by the mood and a wah wah pedal guitar are played in perfect juxtaposition...it transports you off to some ancient Egyptian pyramid everytime. So do you want to go on an astral journey and drift in space for awhile? It's all right here in this truly neglected classic album.

This is top-notch UK 70s underground Prog space rock, essential stuff......believe me this album shouldn't be overlooked!!

If you delight in both failed genius and early 70's hippy zaniness, then do give this band a listen. You'll probably find plenty of words to describe their music, but 'boring' isn't be one of them!! It's fairly intriguing in a way, like being transported to an alternate universe where nothing but weird prog-avant-rock stuff comes out of the car radio when you spin the dial. This LP should be a part of any comprehensive collection of early-70s prog rock.
