Folie Distinguee Alternative Funk LP, obscure French private press on the Vox man Label from the mid 80s, This LP features the best tracks from the pool of material submitted to the alternative funk project & initially released on 2 C60 cassettes in 1984, 14 tracks & 45 minutes of European & US material that best exemplify the term Alternative Funk are showcased here...Cut & Paste, Electro, Minimal synth, Balearic, Leftfield, electro acoustic, techno, power pop, dub disco, ambient, synth pop, punk, edit, italo & disco not disco are terms which most people would identify this material as, whatever you want to call it i think Alternative funk definitely sums the subject matter up perfectly!

From start to finish this LP is compulsive listening & I could go on & on about every track, so to keep it short the highlights are:-

Process Blue 'Control Panel' a pastiche of Kraftwerks Trans Europe Express but utilising a Texas Instruments Speak & Spell, Casio VL tone & a primitive beatbox!

Dee Nasty 'Oriental Groove' Incredible electro track with dope TR808 programming, live bass & spaced out keys, Dee was the DJ on Paris's 1st Hip Hop Radio show on underground radio station Carbone 14 back in 81/82, Hosted free Block parties at La Chapelle with the BBC grafitti crew & released the 1st French Hip Hop LP in 1984 called 'Panam City Rappin' the holy grail for french B Boys!

Metropakt 'CTL' dancefloor dynamite for the masses as soon as the bubbling synth bassline & that ever so familiar Roland TR909 hi hat & snare drops, the intro sounds like it could be a fresh Underground Resistance release...killer DJ track & loops for the techno producer!

Vox Populi & Man 'Alternative Fresh' Deep electronic track with trippy echo'd vox, funky live bass & eerie synths, dark & ethereal which is typical of the sound you can find on their other material.

X Ray Pop 'Klac klac' Filtered rhythm guitar, beatbox & bleepy synths provide the backing for the female vocalist to drop some social commentary, parisian style

Psyclones 'Fall in Time' Primitive Roland CR78 beatbox riddim with fat punky bassline, echo'd vox & an unknown DJ cutting over the track, the Psyclones are Brian Ladd & Julie Frith who are solo artists & compile similar multimedia projects with leftfield artists in California called 'Objekt'...google 'em!

Vox Populi 'Megamix' Cut Chemists single 'Storm' feat Edan & Mr Lif from his new The Audience is Listening LP is basically an extended edit of this obscure example of french cut & paste/turntablism from back in 1984! an unknown DJ (Dee Nasty?) cuts some french records & F..F...Fresh from 'Rockit' over some 808 beats & tape loops provided by Vox Populi!

Tranquil Eyes 'Fitness School' Dutch club action for the DJs performed by this ex Lineas Areas member, Sounds like Tom Tom Club 'Genius Of Love' morphed with some arpeggiated synth stabs, bubbling bassline & bugged out vox, definitely one for the party!

Bizarro artwork featuring images of 'table sculpture' & 'hat stand' two of erotic pop artist Allen jones's Fornophiliac pieces which also inspired the furniture featured in the Korova Milkbar in Kubricks Clockwork Orange, i'm pretty sure the labels are also using some Allen Jones imagery this time from some of his erotic photography!

Rare one to find! even in France this LP is sought after & scarce!
