The Curved Line sees the welcome return of Kelpe, one of the UK's most under-valued beat makers, with a fifth full length of a music-making career that spans almost 15 years. Once closely associated with the much-missed DC Recordings, 2013 saw Kel McKeown set up his own platform Drut Recordings and it appears to have elicited a new level of creativity in his music as Kelpe. It only takes a few listens to feel like The Curved Line is his most accomplished album to date, bursting in various stylistic directions with a real sense of confidence. There are moments of vivid melody that hit you like a satisfying ray of early morning sunshine, whilst some of the beat programming is simply sublime. A great album to sink into and swim around.
