Description

The band Kansas is from the Topeka, KS area, and formed in 1969, FIFTY FIVE years ago. They released their self-titled debut album in 1974, FIFTY years ago! By 1976's smash hit album 'Leftoverture', Kansas was rocking America, and frequently played on the radio (with songs like "Carry On Wayward Son"). In 1977, Kansas released an album called 'Point of Know Return', which features one of rock radio's biggest hits from the 70s: the mellow and insightful "Dust in the Wind"!

'Point of Know Return' is awesome, with the title track, "Dust in the Wind", as well as "Portrait (He Knew)". Kansas was fast becoming THE premier hard rock progressive group in the country! The cover of 'Point of Know Return' features a painting of a ship falling off the edge of the ocean. Which is from the ancient days of people thinking that the earth was flat. (There are currently people who STILL think that, but I won't go there! Lol) This was also issued as a limited edition picture disc LP.

That same year Kansas and CBS Records released the vinyl picture disc that comes in a die-cut sleeve, and the pic disc itself is made to look like a porthole on a ship. Same pic on both sides. The back of the sleeve has song titles and credits. A really cool 70s rock and roll souvenir!

And so you can hear this rock classic the right way, I'll also include the remastered CD, which adds extra tracks! It's great, and they used the original producer of the album for the remaster, Jeff Glixman, (with help from Jeff Magid). They add a live version of "Sparks of the Tempest", and a remix of "Potrait (He Knew)". All cleaned up using today's technology, so sounding awesome! This CD originally came out in 2002.

The vinyl record itself has some slight bubbling up, visible only when turned a certain way. I'm seeing a tiny bit on one side, and a little more on the other side. Nothing bad, and again, only visible when held a certain way in a bright light. It's like the artwork wasn't smoothed out properly when they came back on top with the clear vinyl. The die-cut sleeve looks great, and only has only a little very light shelf-wear on the corners and opening. Sleeve gets an 8.5 out of 10, easily! The CD looks new, and is shiny and clean. Case looking new, as well!

Pic discs of the 70s and 80s usually sounded bad, with plenty of surface noise. A few of them say that on the vinyl or the jacket itself! They began to work out the bugs by the early to mid 90s or so, and modern pic discs sound great. The asking price for this listing is lower than other sellers, due to the flaws on the vinyl (even though they're hardly noticeable). And so you can hear the album in clean digital sound, the CD is also added!

Take a trip to Kansas, to 'The Point of Know Return', but don't become "Dust in the Wind"! (Sorry, couldn't help myself...Lol) The artwork is great, the vinyl is cool, and the whole album rocks! Grab this piece of American rock and roll history with the picture disc of a true classic album that still sounds amazing, to this very day!
