Description

Judy Henske & Jerry Yester Farewell Aldebaran
Straight STS 1052 released 1970

This is the slightly scarcer UK first press, not US.
Matrix: STS 1052 A1 / B1

Own a piece of history. Released in 1970 Farewell Aldebaran by Judy Henske and Jerry Yester was the first record released on Frank Zappa's Straight record label. As would be expected, it contains an eclectic mix of songs in a wide variety of styles and is also notable for its early use of synthesisers. Allmusic described the album as "a fusion of folk music, psychedelia, and arty pop, though that only scrapes the surface of the LP's stylistic complexity.”

Sleeve: Non-laminated gatefold sleeve by E.J. Day Group (distributed in the UK by CBS). Age related signs of handing, edge, corner and spine rub (small tear) – although no writing or sticker residue, graded around VG/VG-

Label: Classic Straight Records Black, white and orange on pink background logo, minimum signs of use, nice condition (see photos) graded VG+/EX-.

Vinyl: Retains a nice sheen, closer inspection (under light) shows light wispy lines and a few marks primarily made by normal age related sleeve removal/handling – nothing feel-able and nothing that interferes with playback. Graded solid VG+

Audio: Plays through with no problems, no pips, pops, skips, sticks or jumps. Clean, clear audio graded EX (played on a Project carbon - blue 2M Ortofon).

I have tried to be honest and transparent in my description - the photographs form part of the description. Questions are welcome, don't hesitate to ask. I have good feedback (and positive comments) as both a buyer and seller, so you can buy with confidence. I have been a collector for 48+ years buying and selling a few records over the years to feed my changing music habits. The few records I sell are either the results of upgrades, duplicates or a bit of thinning every now and again. If anything is not as expected, please contact me straight away and I will do everything to resolve any problems without argument.

I strictly adhere to the Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide using one + or - as an additional guide:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. ….

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing…..

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. …

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
