Description

I sold off my entire collection here years ago because I moved out of the country but I kept a few choice gems at my father's house.  Now that I'm back in the US I'm selling the rest of the lot.  Several Mosaics and some others.
This is unplayed because I had bought three copies.  This is the second I'm selling here.  The LPs are MINT in every way.  The box is MINT in every way except for the 1/2 inch rubbing you see in the photos so ultimately Mint -.  Out of print, of course.  Grab this while you can!  I'm not selling my personal copy so this is the last of them.
I swapped out the cheap, white, plain sleeves for audiophile high-density polyethylene.
Check out my old feedback for my record collection.  All positives which is hard to do when selling albums.

The John Coltrane: The Complete Sun Ship Session is a meticulously curated 3-LP box set released by Mosaic Records in 2013 (catalog number MLP 3005). This limited-edition collection presents, for the first time, the unedited and complete recordings from the August 26, 1965, session by Coltrane's classic quartet: John Coltrane (tenor saxophone), McCoy Tyner (piano), Jimmy Garrison (bass), and Elvin Jones (drums).

Originally, the Sun Ship album was released posthumously in 1971, featuring edited versions of the session's tracks. However, the discovery of the original three-track master tapes—recorded at RCA Victor Studios in New York City by engineer Bob Simpson—allowed for a comprehensive release. These tapes isolated Coltrane's saxophone, Tyner and Garrison's instruments, and Jones's drums on separate tracks, enabling a new mix that offers enhanced clarity and balance. Kevin Reeves remixed the session from these masters, and the set was remastered and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Record Technology Inc. (RTI) in Camarillo, California.

This box set includes all five original compositions from the session, presented in their unedited form and in the sequence they were recorded. It also features multiple alternate takes, false starts, breakdowns, and in-studio conversations, providing an intimate glimpse into the quartet's creative process during a pivotal moment in Coltrane's musical evolution.

As a limited-edition release, The Complete Sun Ship Session has become a sought-after collector's item. While it is currently out of print, copies occasionally appear on secondary markets such as eBay and specialized record retailers.

For those interested in the music without the vinyl format, the performances are also available in a two-CD collection released by Verve Records.

This release offers an invaluable opportunity to experience the full breadth of Coltrane's artistry during a transformative period in his career, capturing the energy and innovation that solidified his legacy in jazz history.
