Description
Up for bid is an original mono, deep groove pressing of a legendary recording from John Coltrane on Blue Note records, cataloged BLP 1577. Featured are the Blue Note microgroove labels with the "47 West 63rd NYC" address on both sides. Also featured are Rudy Van Gelder's "RVG" and ear insignia etchings in the dead wax on both sides. This is an original first pressing and does not have the registration mark on either side (small encircled "R" on the label.)
The playback for the LP is VG++ though the record does show some signs of wear. The result is some light surface noise in the quiet spots between songs. As is true with many of these lovely deep-groove pressings, the sound remains intact with minimal impact from needle marks and scuffs. Playback is nice with no skips. The LP was play-graded on a quality turntable with a new Ortofon stylus. The jacket is in very conservative VG condition. This is a fairly harsh grading because there is writing on the back of the jacket (as pictured) and evidence that an attempt was made to repair the split spine with tape.
Since in my collection, the LP has been stored outside of the jacket in a poly-lined inner sleeve. This is also how it will be shipped to the winning bidder. This is an essential recording for any collector of jazz, a milestone in the genre. The copy for your consideration is not perfect, but will certainly not disappoint. First pressings of records like this one do not come around every day, so don't miss your chance at this rare gem.
All items are promptly shipped in sturdy cardboard record mailers. Check my previous feedback and bid with confidence. Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding the item or shipping.
