Description
"New Thing at Newport" features one long track by John Coltrane and four tracks by Archie Shepp, all recorded live at the 1965 Newport Jazz Festival. It was released that year on Impulse (AS-94, stereo, gatefold cover, van gelder). The musicians backing Coltrane are McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, Elvin Jones, and Bobby Hutcherson, Barre Phillips and Joe Chambers play with Shepp.
The vinyl is in EX condition with a few light scuffs that don't affect play, though there's a bit of background noise during the quiet parts. The laminated sleeve is EX with a small amount of wear at the corners, the laminate starting to peel at the back opening. The labels are faded. It doesn't have the original inner sleeve.
