Description
This is a gorgeous copy of a classic Joe Henderson quartet date for Blue Note, Inner Urge, BN 4189, recorded Nov. 30, 1964 at Rudy Van Gelder’s. What a band: Joe Hen on tenor, McCoy Tyner on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums. Tunes include the exhilarating title track, Night and Day, Isotope (a great blues variant via Joe), the rocking El Barrio and a lovely ballad, Duke Pearson’s You Know I Care. Timeless stuff. All the players are really letting fly.

The record has been cleaned on a VPI Record cleaner, has been played and visually inspected, and is graded as follows:
Vinyl: M-. Except for some very occasional, very quiet background crackle and maybe 4 not very loud pops, this album plays without noise. The crackle in no way affects play. Essentially like new.
Both sides of the run-off have the Plastylite ‘p’ or ‘ear’ in dead wax, along with the ‘van gelder’ stamp. The printed address is the Blue Note Records NYC USA, with Inc. in Blue Note name and R in the Blue Note name below.
There is no deep groove, as deep grooves officially ended with BN 4058.
Vinyl still has close-to-brand-new sheen except for some paper scuffs. I can detect no scratches anywhere.
Labels are clean, like new.
As with any Van Gelder-engineered session, this record has outstanding audio qualities, with a crisp, live, ‘You Are There’ sense to the proceedings.
Cover: VG++: Some storage discoloring front and back, a few all-but-invisible pieces of tape to protect the corners and spine, though there appear to be no tears.
Address on the back is 43 West 61st, New York 23.
This is an original Mono pressing of Blue Note 4189.
