Description
In 1978, an employee at the Columbia Records Pressing Plant in Don Mills, Ontario secretly snuck in a red puck during the test press of Jimi Hendrix’s double album “The Essential Jimi Hendrix” and made himself potentially the only copy ever manufactured of this red coloured test press never offered in the marketplace before. This is the only time it has ever been available for sale in the marketplace. It has been in a private collection for decades, ever since it was first made.
This is NOT a bootleg or unlicensed press. It is a 1/1 press unlike any other.
The matrix/runout codes belong to the original press “2RSX 2245-1•1A•2HKZD” issued by Columbia Records and is the exact same press, but on a higher end vibrant coloured red wax never commercially distributed or mass manufactured in any capacity.
THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND RECORD – IT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE FIRST RECORD. ONLY 1 LP OF THE 2 LP RELEASE.
The record itself has been stored securely for the past 40+ years. Visually graded, it is between an EX and NM-grading depending on how conservative you are; play graded, it plays between a strong VG+ or an EX-grading and was tested it on a Fluance RT85 turntable with lower-end Sony speakers. If you have a higher end sound system, I can only imagine how much clearer and crisp it would sound. On my setup, it played phenomenally.
It DOES NOT include the original gatefold or inner sleeve [as most test presses do not]. It has a generic white label with a handwritten track list. It includes the original generic outer sleeve.
I purchased this record [as well as all the other one-of-a-kind red records I have up for auction currently] from the family of the former Columbia Records Pressing Plant employee. I own a record store in Hamilton, Ontario – just an hour or so away geographically from where the plant used to be.
All the records are an identical shade of red, they were all pressed at the Columbia Records Pressing Plant in Don Mills, Ontario, they were all issued between 1977-1979, and they all came from the exact same collection.
All records have been professionally cleaned and placed into a brand new anti-static MOFI inner sleeve and a resealable poly outer sleeve.
