Description
Here’s one for the dedicated Tull Collector. A truly rare and unique pressing of the Classic - War Child - LP.
How this interesting cover made it’s way onto the record shelves in France was due to an error in the production chain as an incorrect negative was used when the cover art was being manufactured. Of all the many countries that produced that very familiar cover image, none were very different in color or design except for this elusive gem. It was a repress that slipped out for a very short period of time in exceedingly small numbers.
Actually “too rare” (if you know what I mean) as there are accomplished Jethro Tull collectors that don’t even know this rarity exists. In an interview Ian Anderson himself mentioned this pressing saying he was looking to get one (hey Ian, please do give me a call, by all means). From what I’ve amassed over years and years of collecting is that the negative used for a single’s (45rpm) picture sleeve was mistakenly sent to the printer for the repress of this War Child LP instead of the correct album artwork. That misfortune ended up being a blessing in the form of this “one of” cover artwork as all future French pressings used the correct and familiar War Child artwork for the front cover.
Condition of the vinyl is VG+. There are some marks on the surface but nothing major as the record plays through fine.
Condition of this very special cover is also VG+. There is some definite shelf wear (please observe and expand the provided photos) but nothing that causes much distraction when looking at this unique front image. There are no seam splits but shelf wear can be found at a few areas around the edges, again please study the photos. I want you to be aware of any flaws before bidding. Plenty of the original gloss remains on the vast majority of the cover’s surface.
When considering the obscurity of this rare pressing I’m confident in saying that the one I’m offering is in a very acceptable condition as compared to the only other one I’ve had (very beat up). Simply stated, this one looks great.
I hope this record finds it’s way to the right new owner.
Selling a big part of my personal collection accrued over 5 decades. Will be listing a few auctions/items weekly. Some very rare BEATLES items among MANY OTHER artists. Please check in from time to time and see what Rarities and Odd pressings I’ve listed from this extensive collection.
