Description

You are bidding on the Rare, OOP 1975 Original London Cast LP of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Alan Ayckbourn's "Jeeves."  The authors have subsequently rewritten this musical into an almost entirely new show called "By Jeeves" that is readily available on CD.  This 1975 "Jeeves" LP that I'm selling will probably never be reissued on CD because Lloyd Webber & Ayckbourn wouldn't want it to compete with the new incarnation of this musical and also because one of the songs on the LP-- the lovely "Half a Moment"--contains a piece of music that was later recycled into the bridge of "As If We Never Said Goodbye" for Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Sunset Blvd."  I feel that this 1975 "Jeeves" is superior to the later "By Jeeves" CDs because it contains a larger orchestra (orchestrated partly by Don Walker, who arranged dozens of Golden Age Broadway musicals) and there is little dialogue to impede the flow of the songs.  The song listing is such:

Side One

Overture

Code of the Woosters

Travel Hopefully

Female of the Species

Today

When Love Arrives/ Today (reprise)

Side Two

Entr'acte

Jeeves is Past His Peak

Half a Moment

S.P.O.D.E.

Eulalie

Summer Day

Banjo Boy

This LP is Near Mint and is in wonderful Stereo.  It stars David Hemmings and Michael Aldridge (as Jeeves), as well as a large cast of British performers.  Please excuse the truncated photo of the LP cover (that's all I could scan on my scanner); the second picture, however, is from the back of the LP and lists the producers, stars and creators.  I have searched Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk for a listing of this LP, but it seems to be unavailable.  This 1975 "Jeeves" is a must for any musical theatre fan (especially of the work of Andrew Lloyd Webber, whose wonderful composing on this album sounds almost entirely different than anything else he has ever written) and would be a fine addition to one's collection.  Happy Bidding!!
