Description
Norman Granz produced a series of box sets for Mercury Records called 'Jazz at the Philharmonic'. Each has at least 3 LPs and come with extras, listed below:
Volume 15 was the last of the JATP series on Mercury Records, and it features the Gene Krupa trio, a drum battle with Krupa and Buddy Rich, the Oscar Peterson trio, a jam session, a trumpet battle. The msuic is on 3 (12 inch) LPs and included is an 8x11" booklet with commentary and photos AND an original clipping of a review of the 1953 concert.
Volume 16 was released on Granz's Clef label. It features a jam session with Oscar Peterson, Ben Webster, Flip Phillips, Benny Carter, Wille Smith, Charlie Shavers, Roy Eldridge, etc. It also has the Oscar Peterson trio, the Gene Krupa trio, and the Lester Young quintet. The music is on 3 (12 inch) LPs, a rare 10 inch LP, and comes with a series of black&white 8x11 photos of each musician.
Volume 17 was from a 1954 conceet, and fetures Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Bellson, Ben Webster, Buddy Rich, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown, etc. the music is on 3 (12 inch) LPs and comes with a series of black&white 8x11 photos, called ' a pictorial study of the artists'.
All LPs are in perfect condition. The only wear and tear is to the cardboard covers of the boxes, as they are over 50 years old.
