Description

Here is the 2nd of eight jazz and blues 78rpm records that I am listing this week.   I will be giving the records both a visual and a listening grade since they are sometimes not one and the same.  All records were played on a Gemini 6000 PDT turntable with a Stanton M78S pickup, a Vector Research VR-3000 amplifier/receiver, and early EPI-100 speakers.  I wll sell a brand new Gemini 6000 PDT turntable in another auction later this week.
Description:   This 2nd record is with Sam Morgan & His Jazz Band, on Columbia 14213-D
Sides are A. Everybody's Talking About Sammy, and B. Sing On.

Condition:  Visually only V (Everybody's Talking) and V- (Sing On) as both sides show wear and heavy greying. Apart from the greying there is not much else to specifically mention for Everybody's Talking, which is good.   "Sing On" has a couple of tiny lamination lines and a light 1" scratch.  Mostly just heavy greying like the other side.  There's a minor edge bump too but it doesn't affect the grooves at all.
Now the good news:  As with the Clarence Williams disk, this record plays better than it looks. More like a V+ and V respectively.   It's well-recorded (that always helps), plays perfectly flat (i.e. no waving or jumps), no skips (even with the light pickup), and the surface noise does not overwhelm the music which is clearly heard   A heavily played record, yes, but not at all wiped out aurally.  A good listen still.
My grading is based on the following scale:  P, V, or E.  +/- and occasionally ++/--     P = unplayable, E = almost like new.  I've sold & shipped well over 100 78rpm  records on ebay over the years without a single complaint about condition or satisfaction.
Terms:  PayPal

Shipping:  Very securely packed for $ 4.00 s/h via Media Mail (or $10.00 Priority) in the U.S.  Other destinations are possible but please inquire first please for an accurate quote.  Will combine savings on shipping if someone buys more than one record. Overseas sales will incur a $5 surcharge because it involves a lot of extra time and trouble to prepare and process such shipments.  I will not ship to certain countries (e.g. Italy, due to the malfunctioning postal system there). Please ask before bidding.  Thank you.

In reply to a question about packing and shipping I gave a much more detailed answer as follows:

I've packed and shipped well over 100 78rpm records in the dozen or so years I've been selling on ebay. Mostly classical records, which is my specialty, many of them quite valuable.  I've shipped within the U.S. and around the world.  I've also bought some records over the years, both from dealers and from ebayers.  From dealers I learned what proper packing means.  From non-dealer ebay sellers I learned what IMPROPER packing means.
When I pack records I bind them snugly between multiple squares of stiff cardboard taped securely together so that nothing shifts around inside.  I also put them in paper or cardboard sleeves and/or put a square of paper towel between each record.  I do NOT put bubble wrap between records because that is asking for breakage.  Bubble wrap goes on the OUTSIDE of the bound record stack, around and around.  Then all of that surrounded by styrofoam peanuts.
It is also important to use a big enough box, in my opinion, so that the record(s) will be nested safely in the middle with lot of cushion all around.   For a very valuable disk I would recommend double-boxing which would afford an extra measure of protection.  International buyers might not want double-boxing due to the extra bulk, weight, and thus cost of the package.  The buyer will decide.
Insurance is also for each buyer to decide.   Of course the more valuable a record is, the more sense it makes to buy insurance for it, but I pack so that a buyer will NEVER have to try collecting on insurance.  A broken record means failure, disappointment, hassle, regret.  I've never had a broken record yet and I intend to keep it that way!   Hopefully this message will help reassure buyers how seriously I take the issue of packing 78rpm records for safe shipment.
I will consult each winning bidder on which shipping service they would like me to use, plus whatever concerns they might have.

Had a second listen to this disk and thought I'd clarify some of the condition description above.  The tiny lamination lines are on "Sing On" only, and only from edge to grooves, not into them. One of them is from an edge bump, not a bad one. The needle rides up and down a little on this one at first, then flattens out, so I shouldn't have included the "plays perfectly flat" description for this one but it is not something that affects tracking in the slightest.  Mostly this record just shows heavy greying.  Scratches are minimal and there are no needle digs.  The early, earthy, free-wheeling New Orleans style jazz (that's how it sounds to me) comes through very well.  Sam Morgan (I assume that's him) sings on "Everybody's Talking."   I think that the buyer of this record is in all likelihood going to be real happy with it.
