Description

Cheap Thrills LP record and sleeve

Columbia, KCS 9700, red label, with sleeve signed by Robert Crumb in 2008

A few years ago, a man walked into my bookstore in Portland, Oregon, and introduced himself as a neighbor of R. Crumb in Sauve, France. My visitor was an American, and he explained that because he shared with Crumb a taste for old-time music, they'd become friends. Crumb, an occasional visitor to my store, had told him to look me up if he ever got to Portland. My visitor carried with him two copies of the famous Cheap Thrills album, both signed by Crumb. The plan was for him to sell them to me and thereby subsidize part of his trip. I've never asked Crumb to sign anything, and I never will, but acquiring an item he's already signed in some other context seemed less fanboy-ish, so I bought both albums, and this week I'm offering one on eBay.

Using the comic book grading system of Mint, Near Mint, Very Fine, Fine, Very Good, Good, Fair and Poor, I rate the sleeve VERY GOOD-FINE. There is a 3.5 inch slit alongside the upper edge of the sleeve, and some of the edges are very, very lightly worn. The disc itself seems in great shape, but, of course, the disc is not the attraction here, and I won't attempt to rate its condition.
