Description

James Spaulding Uhuru Sasa / Give It up on the East Label. This is an extremely rare recording. James Spaulding best known for his alto sax is highly regarded in the industry and has performed side by side with many great artists.

East was the private label of James Spaulding. It was founded in 1970. Uhuru Sasa / Give It Up was the only record released under the label.

Note side 1 Uhuru Sasa has the East label. Side 2 has the title Give It Up hand written along with James Spaulding's name and home and work phone numbers. I have only seen one other of these records in my research and it had a standard label on side 2. It's rarity is without question.

 This record has great provenance. It was obtained along with a small collection at auction from a family with long ties to the recording industry. Email me for details.

Considering the way the records were stored it is unbelievable that it survived in such good condition. I have only dusted it off, it has not been cleaned. I listened to both sides in its entirity. Side 1 has some light scratches and light handling wear but plays well. Side B is at a minimum VG and plays extremely clear.

I have linked a sound clip from both sides. These are direct clips from this record.

Since quality items can stand on their own I always start my auctions with very low opening bids and no reserve. This is an extremely rare opportunity.
