Description

James Brown - "Try Me" Lp

Very Rare King Album from 1959

This is the very rare King Album from 1959 that has "KING" on the label 2 inches Wide and is book valued at $900.00 in Near Mint Condition.  This record is NOT Near Mint, but it grades VG to VG+.  All songs have been play graded with some grading VG while most grade VG+.  Record shows light scratches both sides.  Surface noise is evident on some of the slow songs in soft passages, but not on the up tempo songs.  It plays through without skipping.

Cover Grade is Good.
Not too bad considering age.  But down graded because of seam splits across Bottom and top.  The seam splits can be repaired, as there are no tears in the cover.  It's not near mint, but it is a very rare,  very collectible Album!

A Little Background. . . .

This record is from a private collection belonging to a former Radio/Music industry executive. As a radio programming director in several major  markets,  he was presented with many first issue pressings to promote new songs from various artists.  He held on to many of these to amass a large collection dating back to the early 1960's. His collection numbers in the thousands with many unopened, rare titles available including promotional copies of artists from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Many of these albums and 45's have never been played!!

If you have a specific title you are looking for, feel free to drop me an email and we will check to see if it is available.

Our Grading System

Mint  = This Record is Factory Sealed and obviously in perfect condition.

Near Mint +  = Close to perfect.  Should look unplayed without defects. Only light scuffs from handling.

Near Mint  = Record will show some signs that it has been played, but handled very carefully by only the previous owner who took very good care of it.  Slight scuff or hairline scratch may be evident, but does not affect sound.

Very Good + = Record surface will show more signs of wear and have more light scuffs or light scratches that are only evident during play through soft passages.

Very Good  = Surface noise will be more noticeable but will not overpower the music and will play through without skipping.  Labels may be marred by writing or stickers.

Good  = We do not sell records of this grade except on the rare occasion when a record is judged solely on it's rarity and not on it's condition.  For a true collector, and not a dealer, rarity always Trumps Condition!

Cover Grades

Near Mint+ = Has High gloss and no serious defects.  Perhaps only slight fade due to age.

Near Mint  = Still Maintains its gloss, shows only minor wear - like slight scuffs on corners.

VG+  = Shows more shelf wear - especially on bottom from sliding - very small seam splits may be evident.
Shows slight ring wear and/or surface discoloration due to age.  There may be writing or stickers on back cover (owners name).

VG = Still not Bad!  Ringwear and discoloration is more prominent.  Will have larger seam splits, especially on bottom and spine.  More writing, tape, stickers etc.  Cover may have drill hole or cut corner - not necessarily bad, just means its still a VG+ cover with a hole drill or cut corner!
