Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have collected over a period of more than 45 years! 1st UK pressing of Junior Wells"Soiuthside  Blues Jam" album  on the Delmark labels. Featureing Buddy Guy, Otis Spann and Louis Myers.  This album was purchased over 46 years ago and originally only ever played to record to tape and then stored in a case with the vinyl separated from the cover and sleeve for protection. This is how I have always stored my records!! Features the earliest possible A-1 and B-1 &-A -B Matrix endings (Only 1st UK press)!   This album is complete with the original and beautiful 1st issue Clout and Baker printed laminated front only cover!! The audio is truly superb through out! Played and recorded at very loud volume on a top system.  Hear the complete recording in the player below.  The audio is graded at Near as Mint in my opinion!  No loud constant clicks or pops! So rich and vibrant throughout! Looks and sounds like it has barely ever been played at all in my opinion! Visuallly I struggle to see no more than one or two feint spider marks on the labels! some minor background surface noise will obviously be evedent in places and the odd interferance/pop/tick but mostly this album is clear and vibrant and a joy to listen to.
46 years old like this! Read the full full description below!

Southside Blues Jam is an album named for Junior Wells with Otis Spann , Buddy Guy and Louis Myers , published by Delmark Records in 1970. Il recorded on 30 december 1969 at Sound Studio di Chicago, Illinois.

Junior Wells (December 9, 1934 – January 15, 1998), born Amos Wells Blakemore Jr., was an American Chicago blues vocalist, harmonica player, and recording artist.

He is best known for his performances and recordings with Muddy Waters, Earl Hooker, and Buddy Guy. He also performed with Bonnie Raitt, the Rolling Stones, and Van Morrison.

Wells may have been born in Memphis, Tennessee, and raised in West Memphis, Arkansas (some sources report that he was born in West Memphis).

Initially taught by his cousin, Junior Parker, and by Sonny Boy Williamson II, Wells learned to play the harmonica skillfully by the age of seven.

He moved to Chicago in 1948 with his mother, after her divorce, and began sitting in with local musicians at house parties and taverns.

Wild and rebellious but needing an outlet for his talents, he began performing with the Aces (guitarist brothers Dave and Louis Myers and drummer Fred Below) and developed a modern amplified harmonica style influenced by Little Walter.

In 1952, he made his first recordings, when he replaced Little Walter in Muddy Waters's band and played on one of Muddy's sessions for Chess Records in 1952. His first recordings as a bandleader were made in the following year for States Records. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he recorded singles for Chief Records and its subsidiary, Profile Records, including "Messin' with the Kid", "Come on in This House", and "It Hurts Me Too", which would remain in his repertoire throughout his career.

His 1960 Profile single "Little by Little" (written by Chief owner and producer Mel London) reached number 23 on the Billboard R&B chart, the first of his two singles to enter the chart.

Wells's album Hoodoo Man Blues, released in 1965 by Delmark Records, featured Buddy Guy on guitar. The two worked with the Rolling Stones on several occasions in the 1970s. Wells's album South Side Blues Jam was released in 1971 and On Tap in 1975.

His 1996 release Come on in This House includes performances by the slide guitarists Alvin Youngblood Hart and Derek Trucks, among others. Wells appeared in the film Blues Brothers 2000. Wells in Urbana, Illinois, 1983

Wells told the following story, printed on the cover of Hoodoo Man Blues: "I went to this pawnshop downtown and the man had a harmonica prices at $2.00. I got a job on a soda truck... played hookey from school ... worked all week and on Saturday the man gave me a dollar and a half. A dollar and a half! For a whole week of work. I went to the pawnshop and the man said the price was two dollars. I told him I had to have that harp. He walked away from the counter – left the harp there. So I laid my dollar-and-a-half on the counter and picked up the harp.
When my trial came up, the judge asked me why I did it. I told him I had to have that harp. The judge asked me to play it and when I did he gave the man the 50 cents and hollered "Case dismissed!" (1948)

Wells began to have severe health problems, including cancer and a heart attack, in 1997. He died in Chicago on January 15, 1998, and was interred in the Oak Woods Cemetery, Chicago.

The Vinyl
On initial visual inspection the vinyl looks absolutely superb, Like new in my opinion Thick heavy, chunky slab of vinyl only found like this on the earliest pressings! I can't see or feel any scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all! Any marks that could possibly be seen would be light whypsy surface scuffs and sleeve removal type only.. ,perhapes the odd light surface scratch only.  This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and are free from any warping. (Note! I have double checked this) The vinyl looks superb, still retaining its original glossy sheen from new.  (no) deep needle scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all!

The Audio Quality
I have played the vinyl prior to listing on a top system at very loud volume! The audio is superbe cristal clear and very vibrant throughout! Top audio seperation on all frequencies only heard like this on early original 1st pressings! Note! Please allow for minor light background noise may be evedent during the play of some tracks and isolated pop or ticks heard.  Importantly there were no loud constant clicks/ticks, pops or any jumps truly awesome and very rare for a 1st pressing. Note: Isolated static type tick/ticks heard here and there but nothing consistant through out the audio. The audio is graded at least excellent plus to as Near  mint for the most part in my opinion!

PLEASE NOTE! I always add this disclaimer! I have played this album prior to listing as usual and have given my honest opinion on the audio quality. Please remember this is a 47 years old original vinyl (not a reissue) Please allow for the odd interference/static/crackle/tick/pop and surface background noise due to recordings from the late 1930s,, but importantly nothing consistant through out the audio! Please remember  that this would have been originally played on a system that is 47 years old!
All indications i.e. that this vinyl has (not) been overplayed and in fact looks barely played in my opinion,  (No real spider marks or traces!), The audio quality superbe on all frequencies.

The labels
This features the light/pea green International "DELMARK" labels. These are superbe I can just barely see just one or two feint spider marks only on the labels, (even when angled to the light) and little if (no) spindle ware! This vinyl looks barely ever played in my personal opinion!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original plain white non-poly die cut sleeve. No splits or tears. Superb for 47 years old like this! Creasing/browning with age only.  The vinyl is now and has always been stored seperately from the sleeve. Note This is the original!

The cover

The original 1st issue laminated front only Clout & Baker cover. Super, super Glossy Laminate. There are (no) edge splits or tears.   The spine is generally lovely and  square   A truly superbe example rarely seen like this.! Light laminate lift at the spine edge worth to mention only. Amazingly, barely a crease worth to mention. The rear is lovely and clean for being 47 years old.  No rubbing or ring wear worth to mention. Any other imperfections, are not noticed unless looked for in my opinion.  Must be at least better than excellent plus to Near Mint in my opinion!
