Only one session, and four songs, make the legacy of New Orleans hot jazz band Jones And Collins Astoria Hot Eight. The Jones was David Jones on sax, and Collins was Lee Collins on cornet, one of the most underrated of the New Orleans trumpet players of the day. Their group with the high-faluttin’ name was based in New Orleans, and they traveled a similar road to that you’d hear from many of the small hot bands in Harlem at the time.
To gather up all their work, you need only find this one single. This is their first issue on Victor 38676, another session appeared on Bluebird years later, in 1940.
