This is the 1957, first edition, “RVG” etched, Deep Groove, “P” pressing of JOHNNY GRIFFIN’s “Johnny Griffin, Vol. 2 A Blowin’ Session” on the "47 West 63rd New York 23” labels of Blue Note BLP 1559. Musicians include Johnny Griffin — tenor saxophone, John Coltrane — tenor saxophone, Hank Mobley — tenor saxophone, Lee Morgan — trumpet, Wynton Kelly — piano, Paul Chambers — bass, Art Blakey — drums.
VINYL plays with consistent medium level surface noise (i.e, crackle, static, ?? or ????, relative to the volume of the music/instruments), with pops and ticks. Repeating ticks of various volume levels throughout entire album. But Ensemble sections are clear, dynamic and strong. No skips. Good gloss. Handful of hairline marks, several feelable. (If you can’t feel it, you won’t hear it). The Deep Groove “47 West 63rd New York 23” labels are clean, spindle wear. See photos.
LAMINATED COVER is in good shape. Corners worn. Much peeling. 1” tape on entire left side of front jacket. Top seams cracks and splits. Spine taped. Lower seam cracking, worn. “BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 47 West 63rd., New York 23” back jacket shows handing writing, stains, tape residue. Please see photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end audio system. RECORD CLEANED ON ULTRASONIC CLEANER.
