This is a 78 rpm 10 inch acetate recording promoting an upcoming performance of Johnny Cash who was booked to play in Ventura. This was his 1st tour of California in 1956. It is not a live recording of that performance, as I dont know if there is one. But rather it’s a radio spot promotion. Please listen to the recording I have posted. It was found in Ventura with other Hill-Billy and rock-a-Billy 78s. A very rare, maybe one of a kind piece of musical history. It plays great, very punchy. The second track is the same thing but varied take. Side two is blank. I’ll include the original paper sleeve. The hand writing on the label reads: ‘Moose Hall Foster Park 8:30 Sunday night Dec. 9th’ And there was in fact a Johnny Cash performance in 1956 on that date in Ventura. This is a part of Ventura which no longer exists as it was demolished to make way for the 33 freeway. But it is on the way to Johnny Cash’s home where he would live later in life in Casitas Springs. He must have had a lot of fun at this show! I have attached a photo of the flyer for the show I found online. I do not have the flyer and it is not included with the record, just here for reference.
