Description

From 1975, comes John Lennon with the album John Lennon Sings The Great Rock & Roll Hits-Roots on Adam VIII Ltd. 8018. EXTREMELY RARE ORIGINAL PRESS of this mail order-only LP! There are many counterfeits of this record out there, however, this one is the real thing! The following points illustrate the differences between the authentic and the fake: On the spine AND the front cover of this album, the title is "John Lennon Sings The Great Rock & Roll Hits". The counterfeits use the word "Greatest" instead of "Great" in the title. The Adam VIII logo on the cover is VERY sharp. The rear cover ads for other Adam VIII records are legible and sharp; on the counterfeits they are blurry. The cover is a posterboard cover, counterfeits usually have slicks glued onto cardboard covers. The label on the true LP is orange;counterfeits are reddish-orange to red. Bell Sound is stamped in the deadwax on both sides and the deadwax is the same size on both sides of the real album. This is not true of the counterfeits. The catalogue number A-8018-A is lightly etched into the label on Side 1 of this album. The counterfeits do NOT have this!

Approximately only 3,000 copies of this record were manufactured and were only sold via mail order. It is a fifteen song album, with two of the songs not released again until years later. Several of the songs were re-recorded by John for his Rock N Roll Music album for Apple, which came out later in the same year. So basically, this LP contains some different versions of these songs and they were more in the nature of raw tracks.

The person whose collection this came from told me that a TV ad for this album that he saw at 11:30 PM one night in 1975 convinced him to send away for it!
