Promotional "Radio Show"
LP
In the 1970’s, John recorded a series of three promotional albums under the title of “Radio Show” and this one was his very FIRST! These albums were circulated to radio stations throughout the country, and in each one, we hear John tell many stories and sing many songs.
In this FIRST Radio Show...
John starts out by talking about the importance of imagination. He then asks us to imagine being inside an airport terminal, and we hear the sounds of a busy airport. JD then sings “Leaving on a Jet Plane” and tells us what meaning that song has for him.
He then talks about the first time he hosted the “Johnny Carson Show” and offended a few people by singing “Forest Lawn” which was a funny song about the famous Hollywood Hills cemetery where many celebrities are buried. We then hear the song “Forest Lawn.”
Next, JD talks about imagining the beautiful Rocky Mountains, and we hear “Rocky Mountain High.”
John then tells us about writing the music for the television special “The Eagle and the Hawk” in 1971. He tells us how much he admires these “magnificent birds” and we hear his amazing song “The Eagle and the Hawk.”
JD then tells us about the filming of one of his specials and his encounter with a mother grizzly bear and her cubs. Since he says this song has never been recorded, he proceeds to sing “How Do You Say Hello to a Grizzly Bear” LIVE!
John then talks about songs he wished he had written, and sings the powerful song “Amsterdam,” which was written by Jacques Brel.
Then John talks about the movie “Sunshine” and the very courageous woman who while fighting cancer, found happiness in John’s music. He said he was honored to have his songs used in the movie and sings “Sunshine on My Shoulders.”
Finally, John wraps things up, thanks everyone, says goodbye and we hear a bit of “Take Me Home Country Roads.”
This LP is 25 minutes in length and is in very good condition with a few minor surface flaws. Sleeve is in excellent condition with minor rubbing.
This is a fantastic opportunity to hear John sing and tell some great stories and would make a really wonderful addition to any John Denver collection!
