Description
You are bidding on an original 1964 STEREO recording of JOHN COLTRANE "A LOVE SUPREME"
IMPULSE A-77
GATEFOLD COVER
FIRST PRESSING ORANGE AND BLACK LABEL
ENGINEERED BY RUDY VAN GELDER with "VAN GELDER" in the dead wax.
THE VINYL: Visually, the record appears very clean and well preserved.
The vinyl is very conservatively estimated at VG+ with superficial paper sleeve type of surface marks mostly evident only under very bright light. Played on a Rega turntable, it plays dynamically with minimal noise (possible light clicking) due to a light, half inch stylus mark during only the opening passages of side one. It sounds great as the music unfolds with no audible issues. There's so much going on with Elvin Jones' drumming, that I had to listen even closer than usual to try to discern a click from Elvin's playing. The vinyl's a nice player that you'll enjoy. Side two sounds great, with a few light clicks on Jimmy Garrison's quiet solo midway through side two.
THE COVER: The gate fold cover is estimated at VG+ with good gloss, a very clean interior. On the upper right corner of the front there's a bit of shredding of the top front seam for two inches (see photo). My personal theory is that while the record was once stored in a box, a cat may have been using the collection as a scratching post. Two of the corners are bumped. Overall, it's still a very nice copy you can be proud to own.
The record includes its original IMPULSE paper sleeve,.
The record will be shipped in a new container with the vinyl removed from the sleeve and everything within a poly bag.
