THIS IS THE 1986 US ORIGINAL PRESSING on PROFILE label. IN OPENED SHRINK SINGLE COVER + INNER SLEEVE. The cover is in VG+ condition: normal wear, and without any major deterioration, BUT light discolouration/wear on right corners/right edge (where missing shrink), left spine is fully readable; INNER with mild creases on cprners/edges and 1 small break (0,5cm on lateral); for details see photos The vinyl is in VG+/EX condition (some light clicks) and plays wonderfully. BECOMING RARE DEBUT ALBUM.

JOE HENRY
A gifted songwriter and vocalist whose intimate, richly detailed songs have been shaped by his eclectic musical world view encompassing rock, folk, country, soul, and jazz, Joe Henry is also a well-respected producer who has helped a wide range of artists refine their songs in the studio. Henry's songs are deeply personal while also offering a keen insight into the lives of his characters, and he possesses a rich voice that brings the moods and emotions of his songs into clear focus without histrionics. His melodies are uncluttered and elegant, revealing a warm personality that's a welcome constant regardless of the tenor of the music. Henry's early recordings were rooted in contemporary folk and traditional singer/songwriter sounds (such as 1989's Murder of Crows), but he would later introduce alt-country accents into his arrangements (1992's Short Man's Room, cut with members of the Jayhawks). With 1996's Trampoline, Henry began incorporating a more adventurous and atmospheric tone into his work, and 2001's Scar found him adding jazz elements in an ambitious manner (including a cameo from Ornette Coleman).

Given Joe Henry's chameleonic career, it should come as no surprise that upon finally hearing his long-unavailable debut album Talk of Heaven, it sounds quite unlike any other record in the singer/songwriter's catalog -- with its melancholy folk-rock approach (closest in spirit to his 1989 major label bow Murder of Crows), the disc almost collapses under the weight of its massive debt to Bob Dylan. Where by later efforts like Kindness of the World and Trampoline Henry's learned to channel his influences into something unique and organic, here he self-consciously apes his idols, suppressing his own natural instincts in the process -- in hindsight, one can certainly hear the emergence of a talent to watch...(AllMusic)
