ALM AL-12 (1977, Japan)
Guitarist Norio Sato plays works by Japanese avant-garde composer Jo Kondo “Knots” for guitar, electric piano & seven cowbells & “Sight Rhythmics” for banjo, violin, electric piano, tuba & steel drum. Kondo’s work is often structured mathematically much like Xenakis. His interest lies in the differences in instrumental timbres. In addition two works by Japanese composer Yuji Takahashi are also performed. “Metatheses-2” & “John Dowland Returns” both for guitar. Superb recording of these unique guitar works by two important Japanese avant-garde composers. Kondo’s recordings for ALM are very uncommon. Don’t miss out!
