JIMI HENDRIX - rare handwritten lyric on LP inner cover.

History: I purchased a record and memorabilia collection from photographer Tony McAvoy last month. In the sixties he was an agency photographer and one of his assigments was to do several photo sessions with Jimi Hendrix in London. At one point in 1968 or possibly 1969 Tony attended a party with JIMI at either Island Studios or Olympic in Barnes. Tony, being a real sixties groover, does not recall the extact location or even the exact year. But the events are certain. In attendance at this bash were various members of TRAFFIC & FLEETWOOD MAC amongst dozens of hangers-on. Jimi, it seems, was "holding court" and scribbled lyrics and ideas all night long furiously onto whatever pieces of paper he could find.

At the end of a long night Tony found this item "unattended", took it and headed home. Fast forward to 2003 and my visit to Tony's house. After buying his LP collection he mentions this artefact almost as an aside and produces it. I have no doubt as to Tony's version of events and as to how he came to be in posession of this handwritten lyric. He is an honest and kind man and quite frankly, he didn't make a big deal about this item at all. I have compared this with several pieces of Hendrix' handwriting, and am sure about its authenticity. Tony has also kindly written me a letter of authenticity, which will be provided on sale of this item.

Reagarding the lyrics themselves, it seems that Hendrix never used them, which is not a surprise because Tony took posession of them after they were disgarded. A rare and valuable piece of Hendrix' handwriting has finally seen the light of day again…happy bidding!!
